Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering (SVCE)

   Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering (SVCE), a unit of Sri Venkateswara Educational and Health Trust (SVEHT), was inaugurated by the then Governor of Tamil Nadu, Hon'ble Shri S L Khurana.  The Trust itself was founded in the same year at the behest  and with the benign blessings of His Holiness Pujashree Kanchi Kamakoti Peedathipathi Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal.   The inaugural function of the college complex at Nazarathpet took place on 8th April 1985. Formal academic classes were inaugurated by Mr C. Subramanian on 19th August 1985.

   SVCE was established by the Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation (SPIC) group.  Dr. A. C. Muthiah, a renowned Engineer, Industrialist and Philanthropist, is the Chairman of the Governing Council of SVCE,  which is the Apex body of the college. In 1991, the college shifted into its new campus at Pennalur, near the town of Sriperumbudur, Tamilnadu. The GRIHAPRAVESAM function of the new Campus was performed on 25.07.1991. The Campus houses a Vinayaka temple "SRI VIJAYA GANAPATHI ALAYAM".  Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering received approval from the All India Council for Technical Education the same year. Courses in electrical & electronics engineering and chemical engineering were started in 1994.  

   The major objective of this Institution was to plan and implement a Program of Education in Engineering and Allied Sciences in order to promote Research, to disseminate Knowledge and to foster Cooperation and Exchange of Ideas between the Academic Community and Industrial Organizations and to develop Entrepreneurship skills among students. It strives to achieve Academic Excellence along with the harmonious development of Personality of students.

   SVCE celebrated its decennium on 16.03.1996 in the presence of former Minister of State for Commerce and present home minister of the Government of India Sri. P. Chidambaram. In 1996 it began a course in Information Technology and became the first college in the country to do so.  The college conducted its first Graduation Day  on 10.01.2009 with the eminent scientist Dr. Mayilswamy Annadurai as the Guest of honour.  Academic year 2009-10 was the Silver Jubilee Year of the College. The college conducted the second Graduation Day on 29.3.2010 with the eminent scientist Dr Thirumalachari Ramasami as the Guest of honour. The college obtained an ISO 9001:2000 certification in 2002. SVCE obtained autonomy from UGC in 2016.

   Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering, Kanchipuram is a premier Institute located in  an area of about 94 acres of land, with excellent infrastructural facilities that include Instructional Buildings, Laboratories, Workshops, Faculty Rooms, Office, Conference Hall, Dispensary, Technology Innovation Centre, Staff Quarters, Guest House, Open Air Auditorium, Library, Canteen, Hostels, Swimming Pool, RO Plant, Shuttle Service, Wi-Fi connectivity, Gymnasium, Indoor Sports Complex and Play Grounds.  

    SVCE offers  23 UG and 11 PG Full Time courses, all of which are Affiliated to Anna Universtity, Chennai.  Candidates can pursue in multiple range of courses like B.E. / B.Tech, M.E./M.Tech wherein students gain proficiency & expertise in the specialization of Computer Science Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biotechnology Engineering, Information Technology, Automobile Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Power Engineering. Courses offered by institute are recognized and acknowlegded by approving bodies like AICTE. Most importantly, these courses  are imparted at affordable fees, which increase accessibility and allow students the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills in their chosen field. 

   SVCE has more than 22,000 alumni, over 450 Faculty and Staff, and currently, over 3900 students are pursuing their degree programs.

   SVCE has a 14,400 sq ft Library spanning three floors covering major fields of Science and Engineering, a Conference Room, a Study Space and a Seating capacity of over 200. The Library is Air-conditioned and has Conferencing, Multimedia, Internet, Reprography Facilities, a CD-ROM collection. and a Book Bank for studentS. The college subscribes to most of the major Technical Journals including those by the IEEE, ACM and ASME. Over 1,04,694 volumes and 1725 CDs are available and around 400 Print and Online Journals are subscribed.  Apart from the Central Library, all Departments maintain their own Libraries. SVCE is an Institutional member of The British Council Library, IIT Madras, American Council Library, DELNET and MALIBNET. The Library uses Multimedia Computers with Internet Connectivity, Computer-based Training, CDs, E-books and E-journals to promote E-learning.

  A new department of Information Management System (IMS) was started in 2012.
The college campus boasts of the 15 acres (653,400.0 sq ft)  sports facility comprising a Swimming Pool, Synthetic and Clay Tennis courts, Turf Cricket ground, Basketball, Football grounds, Badminton, Volleyball Courts, and a 400-meter Athletics track.
A further 350-square-metre (3,800 sq ft) is dedicated to a table tennis hall, gymnasium, and carom and chess rooms.
The college conducts inter-college tournaments in Basketball, Volleyball, Cricket and Ball Badminton.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked it 176 among engineering colleges in 2020.
(ii) NAAC grade A+ got by SVCE.
(iii) The institution got autonomous status up to 2032.

   It was a matter of pride when SVCE-CHENNAI iGEM Team won the Bronze Medal in the iGEM 2023 Grand Jamboree Competition held at Porte de Versailles, Paris, France from 2nd - 5th Nov 2023.  The Mentors and Students of iGEM team, Department of Biotechnology Mr. Arun Pravin CV, Mr. Nandakishor V, Mr. Sriram M and Mr. Sivagurunathan R, 3rd year B.Tech Biotechnology students represented the SVCE-CHENNAI team in the iGEM Grand Jamboree event.

   Twenty two batches of students have passed out of the College. Many of them have completed their Masters Degree. Several  Alumni have completed PhD and work in prestigious US and Indian Universities. Many work in reputed companies like General Motors, Microsoft, CISCO, GEC, Infosys, TCS, CTS, HCL, TVS, Hindustan Motors, etc. A few are entrepreneurs.

    Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering (SVCE), Kancheepuram is one of the best engineering institute in Tamil Nadu. It provides best facilities to its students such as Library, hostel for boys and girls, canteen, mess, health care, sports, gym, ATM and transportation.

   Admissions to B.E./B. Tech programs will be based on marks secured in Higher Secondary Exam as per Tamilnadu Engineering Admissions regulations. Out of the 1020 total seats, 50% are filled up through Tamil Nadu Government Department of Technical Education Online-counseling.

How Placements Cell Operates in SVCE

   The Placement cell is one of the important department in SVCE. Knowing that you will be guided after your graduation so that you land a job helps you feel secure. This is the reason why we have a dedicated placement cell that helps, guides, and advises students about the future.

   In SVCE, students come from all walks of lives. They come from different parts of the country including rural areas. Some individuals may not be aware of how things work. Some others may not be confident enough to walk into an interview even though they are skilled. These problems are more common and our skilled placement panel are helping students to get placed in top companies.

Scholarship Scheme 

Dr. A. C. Muthiah, Chairman, Governing Council initiated a new scheme from academic year 2003-2004 to distribute 5% of tuition fees income to students as:-

Prizes will be given to the first rank holder in Continuous Assessment Tests (CAT) of each class in every semester and University Semester Examination of each branch, every semester.

Scholarship Scheme II

The College has Rs. 64 lakhs as Scholarship Fund as on 31st March 2010. The interest accruing on the fund is utilized for giving assistance for purchasing books & instruments and awarding medals & prizes. The list of major donors and the amount contributed by them is shown below.

Scholarship to Marine Engineering Student

Scholarship of Rs.40,000/- each to an outstanding student of Second, Third and Final year of Marine Engineering course based on his performance in the respective year of study is given by Vasant J. Sheth Memorial Foundation, Mumbai.

   The College provides transportation between different districts around and College. 60 buses are operated for Students and Staff of SVCE. Transport is also provided for sports, library, laboratory and late evening classes. Buses are operated on Saturdays and Sundays for special classes, NCC, Sports, etc. On special occasions, buses are utilised for Industrial visits and Social service activities.

    A transport committee, headed by a Convenor, is formed to take care of the smooth operation of buses. The staff in-charge of the buses (one teaching and one supporting) ensure the smooth functioning of the buses. The Transport committee meets once in Six months.
