The Thiruvalluvar University was established in Vellore district of Tamilnadu by the Government of Tamilnadu in October 2002 under the Thiruvalluvar University Act, 2002. (Government of Tamilnadu Act 32/2002). The University was named after the great Tamil Saint poet “Thiruvalluvar”. The University is located in a sprawling campus of about 112.68 acres at the Serkkadu near Vallimalai about sixteen km away from the Vellore City on the Ranipet-Chittoor Trunk Road.

It is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (A.I.U.).

In the University, every effort is harnessed to make Educational Institution as temple of learning. The aim of this University is to provide facilities for advancement in Research and dissemination of knowledge with a special focus on the economic and social upliftment of the marginalised who live in the four districts a viz Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram and Cuddalore which are economically, socially, educationally and geographically backward districts wherein majority of the people live in rural areas with abject poverty. Especially the Vellore district comprises a thick population of Adivasis and Scheduled Tribes who are yet to attain empowerment in higher education. Thiruvalluvar University Application Process :

  • Application forms can be downloaded from the University official website.
  • Application can also be obtained from the Registrar, Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore-632 115.
  • The application fee of Rs.200/- (Rs.100/- for SC/ST) in the form of DD along with Self attested copies of mark statements of the qualifying examination and filled-in application form should be sent directly to “The Registrar, Thiruvalluvar University, Serkadu, Vellore – 632 115 with superscription on the top of the cover as “Application for admission to University Department”.
  • Attach a self addressed 24x12cm envelope Rs.20/- stamped along with filled-in application.
  • The process should be remitted through NEFT/RTGS mode in the Indian Overseas Bank with the numbers given below and the original bank challan with UTR number should be enclosed with the application form.
  • For admission, the candidates have to sit for an entrance exam. The exam is conducted by the University in the respective departments of Thiruvalluvar University, Serkkadu, Vellore-115.
  • Degree holders from other University need to obtain the Admission Approval Eligibility Certificate from this University for registration. The admission list shall be placed in University and also published in the official University website within two week's time from the date of admission. The application form for various courses is available on the official website of the university. This university also imparts education through distance learning. Thiruvalluvar University MA and M.Sc Admission

The University runs a two-years Master's degree course in Arts and Science stream. The Arts stream has three specializations and Science stream has four specializations to choose from. The admission is done on the basis of entrance exam along with qualified examination marks, divided equally for the preparation of final merit list for various courses.

Thiruvalluvar University M.Phil and Ph.D Admission

The University runs research course with various specialisation in the field of M.Phil and Ph.D. The maximum period for completion of the M.Phil., programme is two years in the case of Full-time candidates, and three years in the case of Part-Time candidates. Whereas, for Ph.D, the maximum completion period is five years for full time candidates and for six years for part time candidates.There are three categories of Ph.D., research scholars:

  • Full-Time Research Scholars (with or without stipend or fellowship)
  • Part-Time Research Scholars (teacher or non-teacher; internal vis-a-vis external)
  • The admission for both the courses shall made on the basis of the marks obtained by the candidates in qualifying examination and marks scored in the Entrance Test followed by viva-voce/ interview.
  • The students who have scored qualified marks in UGC/CSIR (JRF) Examination / SLET/GATE / teacher fellowship holder are exempted from the entrance test of M.Phil full time course admission.
  • Whereas, in case of Ph.D admission, the students who qualify UGC/CSIR (JRF) Examination NET/SLET/GATE and teacher fellowship holders are exempted from the proposed entrance examination but they need to sit for an interview which is of 60 marks.
  • Key points to note for part time programme
  • Candidates should enclose the “Service Certificate” and an eligible “No objection Certificate” along with the application form for admission.
  • For M.Phil Admission, the first preference will be given to teachers working in the College affiliated to this University and in the Department of this University. Service certificates of the teachers should be issued by the Principal of the college / Polytechnic or Headmaster of the Schools of any category.
  • If non-lab oriented subjects are available in the affiliated colleges, the candidates may be registered for the non-lab oriented subjects only.
  • The candidates who have secured lesser than 55% (except SC/ST) of marks and got admitted for M.Phil.,are not eligible for teaching positions as per UGC and State Government Norms.

The selection shall be based on the marks obtained in the Basic qualifying examinations 50% and the Entrance Examination 50% of marks. Numbers of seats are limited to each department offering the courses and selections are based on the Reservation Policy prescribed by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu.ScholarshipThiruvalluvar University Vellore offers scholarships for their students.
