Alagappa University was originally founded by Alagappa Chettiar in 1947 as Alagappa Arts College. In 1985 the college was granted full university status by the Tamil Nadu government and became Alagappa University.

The university is located in Karaikudi, a municipal town in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The university is organised into four academic faculties: the faculty of arts, faculty of science, faculty of management, and the faculty of education. Each faculty is subdivided into different schools, which offer a range of both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes.

Students are given the opportunity to study abroad as part of the university’s study exchange programmes. The university has developed 41 international exchange programmes with higher education institutions around the world in countries including Australia, China, Singapore, Malaysia, and South Korea.

The University Science Instrumentation Centre was established to advance the quality of research in basic and applied fields of science.

Scholarships
Alagappa University Scholarship

A scholarship is an award which comes in the form of money with the purpose of aiding students in terms of finance. The scholarships can be given considering the academic performance and financial deficiency of a student. Students can utilise the cash for their further education or in other words, for their schooling.

These awards can be presented by the Government, some private institutions and sometimes a few numbers of NGOs as well. The scholarship differs from an educational loan in many ways, and the primary reason is the awarded fund does not demand to be repaid by the students.

Alagappa University offers its students with various scholarships in the objective of helping them to continue their respective studies.

SC/ST scholarship is presented by the Tamil Nadu Government to the students who are staying in the hostels of Alagappa University and come in the Caste category of SC and ST. The annual income of their parents must be within 2,50,000 INR.
Minority Welfare Scholarship is given to the students belonging from Muslim, Jain, Buddhist religion and their parents’ annual income should not exceed INR 2,00,000. INR. 16,000 INR is given as the scholarship amount every year.
CSSS or the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship is reserved for the meritorious students whose family’s annual income is within 5,00,000 INR. The amount of the scholarship is approximately 12,000 INR per year.
CM MERIT is offered to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe category students, based on their performance in the 10+2 exams. The government of Tamil Nadu decides the cutoff marks for this scholarships’ eligibility criteria and an amount of INR 3,000 is provided to the candidates.
BC/MBC/DNC scholarship is offered to the students whose parent’s yearly income is within a range of INR 1,50,000 to 2,00,000. The scholarship amount is 7,225 INR per year.

Alagappa University Campus Facility

The Alagappa University is situated in Karaikudi district in Tamil Nadu. The university was founded by Dr. RM Alagappa Chettiar, who was a great educationalist and philanthropist.

The university came into existence by the Government of Tamil Nadu in the year 1985. Alagappa University was initially a unitary type of college which was gradually transformed into an affiliating type.

This change was incorporated by the Act of 2002 that was taken by the Tamil Nadu Universities. Alagappa University has a membership of Association of Indian Universities (AIU) because of which it has an excellent relationship with the other academic institutions, industrial establishments and research laboratories.

The primary agenda of the university is “Excellence in action”. Alagappa University offers a vast range of facilities for its students as well as faculty members within its campus.

Firstly the Central Library of the university that spread across an area of 2,012 square metres, started its services in the year 1987.

It has a seating capacity of two hundred people. Around one lakh printed books, 492 items in the category of non-book materials, printed periodicals 149 are present in the Library.

Besides these collections, the library has internet access and also provides Online Journals more than 6,242 and e-thesis journal of more than 1,31,000 numbers.

The library has focused on the academic needs of the postgraduate and PhD students. Also, the library offers a spacious reading hall, computerized rooms, stack rooms of three-tire. Library remains open from 10 AM to 5 PM.

Students of Alagappa University has the opportunity of staying at mess halls in the Alagappa University campus with proper availability of quality food. The university provides around fifteen hostels which consist of 427 rooms for both men and women. These hostels have clean rooms with big halls for reading and enough open area to perform the games and sports-related activities.

Alagappa University campus also has a Health Care Centre. The centre offers all kind of medical check-up to the students, non-teaching members and faculty members.

Cafeteria, Yoga Centre, Guest House, Information Technology Avenue are also present at the Alagappa University Campus.

Alagappa University has an excellent and extensive network of transportation facilities connecting it to major locations. There are many number of pickup points located at the convenient locations.
