The campus of the University is located at Chail Chowk near Mandi (H.P.) and surrounded by lush green fields, pine and oak forests thus becomes an ideal place for study in a clean health-oriented environment.
The School is furnished with state-of-the-art facilities to enhance the educational experience. Classrooms and tutorial rooms are fitted with interactive smart boards to support modern teaching methods. Hands-on learning is a core focus, supported by fully equipped laboratories covering all subjects such as animal nutrition, veterinary diagnostics, surgery, and pharmacy.
Practical training is further enriched through livestock handling areas that offer experience with cattle, sheep, goats, and poultry. Instruments and equipment meet the standards prescribed by statutory bodies. Additionally, the campus includes a well-resourced library and computer centre for academic support, as well as a central auditorium with a capacity of over 900.
Believing in the importance of holistic development, the School provides facilities beyond academics, such as a sports ground and platforms for community service through the National Service Scheme (NSS). Real-world exposure is offered through a dedicated Livestock Farm and a Veterinary Clinical Complex, where students gain valuable hands-on experience in managing and treating animals. This training helps them develop the skills essential for veterinary practice and animal husbandry.
The objectives of the School include imparting education in veterinary, animal sciences, and allied disciplines; promoting research and community knowledge sharing; enhancing marketing strategies for livestock and their products; and supporting conservation efforts for livestock breeds and wild animals. Collaborations with government departments, national and international research institutions help the School stay current with technological advancements, while the goal remains to align its education standards with international benchmarks.
The School’s mandate is to uplift society by training veterinary professionals capable of managing livestock health and production. It aims to produce postgraduate and doctoral-level specialists to meet the needs of the state and associated sectors. Research is conducted through a multidisciplinary approach, and opportunities for continuing education are made available to professionals. The School also offers consultancy and specialist services to livestock owners and government agencies, operates referral hospitals for advanced animal care, and ensures students receive practical clinical training. Faculty development is encouraged through participation in training programs, workshops, seminars, and exchange opportunities, along with national and international collaboration for both students and faculty.
The overarching goal is to produce veterinary graduates, extension workers, and specialists who contribute to better livestock management and public health. Through disease prevention and improved livestock production, the School aims to enhance the quality of rural life in Himachal Pradesh.
The academic programs offered include the B.V.Sc. & A.H. program as per Veterinary Council of India’s MSVE 2016 guidelines, which has a duration of 4.5 years plus a one-year internship, totaling five and a half years.
