Al-Ameen Medical College, Bangalore
About
Al-Ameen Medical College in Vijayapura, also called AMC Bijapur, was established in 1984 by Dr Mumtaz Ahmed Khan under the Al-Ameen Charitable Fund Trust with the purpose of providing quality medical education and healthcare to the Muslim community and other underprivileged sections of society. It is a private medical college offering undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in India with strong social service roots in education and healthcare.
The college is located on Athani Road in the historical city of Vijayapura in Karnataka. The sprawling campus covers about 200 acres on the western hills with academic buildings, administrative blocks, a central library, recreation and sports areas, separate hostels for boys and girls, and a large teaching hospital to support clinical learning and community services.
Academically, it is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru, and is fully recognized by the National Medical Commission, formerly the Medical Council of India, which allows it to run approved medical programs. Its hospital is accredited for quality patient care and clinical training, though it does not have a NIRF ranking as of the latest available data.
The Al-Ameen educational network under the trust includes the core medical college and hospital and is associated with other institutions on the same campus such as paramedical sciences and dental facilities, forming an integrated health sciences educational environment.
The college offers an undergraduate MBBS program of five and a half years including internship and postgraduate MD and MS specializations in various clinical and non-clinical disciplines. Admissions are based on NEET-UG and NEET-PG examinations, with eligibility requiring completion of 10+2 science with biology for MBBS and a recognized MBBS degree with internship completed for postgraduate courses. Scholarships are available through national and state-level schemes for eligible students.
Infrastructure at the institution includes modern lecture halls, laboratories, a well-stocked central library, student hostels, sports and recreation facilities, and an attached multi-specialty teaching hospital providing extensive clinical exposure and diagnostic services to students while serving the local population.
Since medical colleges do not follow traditional placement drives, most graduates proceed to clinical practice, internships, residencies, further specialization, or competitive examinations for opportunities in India and abroad, with alumni success in licensing exams reported by the institution.
Overall, Al-Ameen Medical College stands as a long-established medical institution with a broad campus dedicated to teaching clinical medicine and allied health sciences within a recognized academic framework aimed at producing competent healthcare professionals and serving wider community health needs.
