About
All India Institute of Medical Sciences Mangalagiri, commonly known as AIIMS Mangalagiri, is located in the city of Mangalagiri in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. It is a central government medical institute, established in 2018 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). AIIMS Mangalagiri was founded with the goal of reducing regional imbalances in quality tertiary healthcare and medical education in India by setting up institutions of national importance in underserved areas.
The institute is situated between Guntur and Vijayawada, easily accessible by road and rail, and occupies a sprawling campus of over 180 acres. It is located on the Chennai Kolkata National Highway, making it well connected for both patients and students. The campus is being developed in phases, with modern infrastructure and academic blocks already operational, offering a serene and well-planned environment for learning and healthcare delivery.
AIIMS Mangalagiri is affiliated directly with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and operates autonomously under the AIIMS Act. It is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and University Grants Commission (UGC). Although being a relatively new institute, it holds the status of an Institute of National Importance, which ensures high standards in academics, faculty, and research.
The institute currently consists of one medical college, nursing college, and various paramedical departments. It hosts faculties in general medicine, surgery, pediatrics, pharmacology, anatomy, and more. The hospital block is gradually expanding, and faculty recruitment is ongoing in all specialties to support teaching and patient care.
AIIMS Mangalagiri offers courses in the medical and health sciences streams including MBBS, BSc Nursing, and several paramedical courses such as optometry, MRIT, and dialysis therapy. At the postgraduate level, it offers MD and MS programs in core medical disciplines. Admissions to MBBS are through NEET UG, and for PG through NEET PG. Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria set by NMC. The institute offers scholarships and stipends to eligible students as per central government norms.
The campus boasts state of the art infrastructure including lecture halls, modern labs, a central library, research labs, skill labs, simulation centers, and a well-equipped hospital with outpatient and inpatient services. Hostels, faculty residences, recreational facilities, and digital learning systems are being actively developed and expanded.
As a newer AIIMS, the institute is still building its placement and internship ecosystem, but MBBS and MD students are eligible for compulsory internships within the hospital. Many graduates also go on to pursue higher education, research roles, or placements in reputed healthcare institutions across India.
In conclusion, AIIMS Mangalagiri is an emerging center of excellence in healthcare and medical education in South India. With strong government backing, modern infrastructure, and a vision to serve both rural and urban populations, it is quickly becoming a preferred choice for aspiring medical professionals.
