History

The Anna Adarsh College for Women opened its gates for the first time in 1985. Established in the fond memory of the legendary leader and charismatic statesman of Tamil Nadu, Arignar Anna, the college has taken his renowned motto as its inspiration – Duty, Discipline and Dignity. Beginning with a small core team of 300 students, 22 faculty members and 6 Undergraduate programmes, the college has grown by leaps and bounds with every passing year.

Today, the college boasts of student strength of 4938 with a 215 strong teaching force offering 28 programmes that include the Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Research streams.

Established in the year 1985 by the Punjab Association of MADRAS “Registered logo”, “Anna Adarsh College for Women” is a premier centre of higher learning committed to the exclusive cause of women’s education. Admission to the Ph.D courses is done in two sessions at Anna Adarsh College for Women, Chennai.

The selection process is based on scrutiny of the application form and on merit.

The merit list of the candidates is prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination (50%) and candidates' performance in the entrance examination (50%).

Scholarship Policy

The Management Punjab Association has evolved a Scholarship policy for the students based on merit and reservation Policy of the Government applicable to all the enrolled students.

The Management considers award of Scholarship and/or adjustment toward tuition fee to any deserving meritorious student. The selection procedure involves application by the deserving students and consideration of partial tution fee waiver to deserving students with special skills in sport, culturals and academics.

The Heads of Departments recommend eligible candidate names for any financial support applicable. The Principal and the management shall scrutinize and approve the award of Scholarship.

 Scholarship awardee has to maintain minimum attendance and satisfactory performance in all the semester exams with no arrear and maintain the required code of conduct.

 Sports Scholarship is Instituted by the Management in the form of partial or total fee waiver.

 Due consideration to be given to students who are orphaned and are economically backward.

Girls Hostel

The college provides a girls' hostel next to the college campus with well-ventilated rooms and CCTV cameras to ensure safety. The Girls' hostel facilities include a recreation hall, reading room, emergency medical aid, hygienic kitchen, and safe drinking water.

Library

The college provides a well-stocked library with various books, journals, periodicals and newspapers. The library provides good seating arrangements and it is available for students, faculty and other staff members.

Sports

The college sports facilities are provided for sports like athletics, Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Kabaddi, Chess, etc. The College  Kabaddi field, badminton court, volleyball court and Throwball court. The college also provides facilities for indoor games like table tennis, Carom and chess. The college also provides sports materials for practice and training.

I.T Infrastructure

The college provides a well-equipped computer lab with an internet facility for students. The Computer labs have been equipped with updated systems and the latest software packages. There is a Microprocessor and Digital Electronics lab exclusively for the Computer Science students

Cafeteria

The college provides a well-furnished AC canteen and a coffee day stall. The college canteen provides  hygienic, nutritious food at reasonable rates on the campus,

Auditorium

The college has a centrally air-conditioned auditorium with a capacity of around 1300 people. The auditorium is spacious with audio-visual facilities. It includes a conference hall, with a seating capacity of 300 members and two board rooms with a capacity of 30 members. The auditorium provides a venue for different guest talks, seminars and meetings.

Laboratories

The college provides well-equipped laboratories for different departments. The Department of Chemistry lab provides research labs for students. The Physics lab has experimental setups related to the General Physics lab, Optics lab, Electronic lab, Allied Physics lab, and Ballistic Galvanometer room to encourage students to research practices. The college also provides food Science Management lab, Biochemistry and Nutrition lab, Physiology and Microbiology lab, Textile lab and an Interior decoration lab to help the students of Home Science gain hands-on experience.

Banks/ATMs

The college campus has an extension counter and an ATM facility of the KVB  Karur Vysya Bank which functions on campus for the benefit of staff and students.

The college has the transport facility for all the students and staff.
