Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM) - Trichy

Bharathidasan Institute of Management, Tiruchirappalli (known by its abbreviation BIM-Trichy) is an Indian business school established in 1984 in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, India.

In August 1984, erstwhile Union Finance Minister, Bharat Ratna Shri. Chidambaram Subramaniam along with Prof. P. S. Mani Sundaram the Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University and Dr. V. Krishnamurthy, former Chairman of BHEL chaired a meeting of leading academicians and industrialists and an idea was born.  Their dream was to create an Academy that would be:

• Grounded in strong theoretical inputs
• Have proactive partnership with large organizations
• Provide students with a real world learning environment

With this vision in mind a partnership was signed with BHEL to create the country’s first ever Management Institute housed within the  BHEL industrial township in Tiruchirapally, Tamil Nadu. Thus was born Bharathidasan Institute of Management – a School of Excellence.  Today, more than 4000 BIM Alumni spread around the globe are significantly contributing to corporates and society.

BIM is affiliated to Bharathidasan University as an autonomous institution of excellence managed by an independently run professional society. Its flagship MBA program is approved by AICTE.

BIM offers one of the most coveted MBA programmes in India, apart from PhD and other Executive Development Programs.  The programs are offered on full-time mode. The college is often ranked among the well known Business Schools of the country ever since its inception.  Admission to BIM is through Common Admission Test (CAT), conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). In addition to appearing for the CAT Exam, candidates have to apply separately for admission to BIM. Candidates shortlisted based on CAT score will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview before the final selection is made.

In September 2011, BIM has started a Consulting Group to render business consultancy services to organizations with special focus on developing and supporting micro, small and medium enterprises. BIMCG is a BIM Consulting Group of Bharathidasan Institute of Management that works with organizations to improve performance on a sustainable basis.

Since its inception the institute has functioned from the BHEL Campus. The classes and hostel accommodation for students are provided in the MHD complex building in BHEL campus.

The selection process for Bharathidasan Institute of Management admissions is based on the academic performance and CAT/XAT/GMAT scores will be called for a Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI).

BIM follows an engagement-driven placement policy. BIM encourages corporates to participate in curriculum design intimately and also sponsor and deliver some of the courses. We extensively engage with the corporates to offer courses in new technology areas such as Digital HR, Fintech, Blockchain applications, Derivative analytics, AI/ML, etc. This engagement model provides a platform for the recruiters to spot their future talents and plan their elective courses to make them productive from the first day of their work. This engagement model allows the candidates to reflect on the kind of work they would love to do. As a result of these engagement-driven placement initiatives, BIM students demonstrate a very high retention rate, resulting in recruiters’ satisfaction. BIM enjoys a strong recruiter base, and very often, most of our students get placed even before we can churn out the placement brochure. From this year on, we have started auditing our placement data by CRISIL, thereby BIM being the only select few B Schools in India to reflect the placement data correctly. BIM consistently witnesses 100% placement of its graduates. BIM 38 batch (2021-2023) is seeing a great start with its placement season, with 93% of the batch getting placed within two weeks of commencement of the recruitment process. The placement team strives to provide students with an appropriate role that leverages the candidate’s uniqueness and strengths. The PGP program is so structured that students can discover their strengths, develop areas of interest, and convert their passion into a career. The placement process is in sync with the PGP program that begins with personality exploration, numerous counselling sessions, and gradual discovery of interests and expertise. The method includes Personality Growth Laboratory, a battery of Psychometric Tests, and frequent interaction with industry stalwarts to enable students to make informed choices.

Scholarship, Research and Industry Consulting
Academic rigors in BIM are well established. Besides scholarship, BIM has a strong focus on research and the creation of knowledge capital with a strong practice orientation. Not a moon shot research, but research with immediate impact on industry and society.

Library

The BIM Trichy provides a wide computerized library with the large selection of different volumes. The library of BIM Trichy is also equipped with an enriched collection of International and Indian journals. There are CDs and online access to various journals including Harvard Business Review glorifying the BIM Trichy library resources

Sports

The committee that handles the sports and games activities in BIM. It organizes sporting events every trimester Viz., football, throwball, volleyball, badminton and cricket. They maintain sports and fitness equipment.

Classrooms

All classrooms are fully air-conditioned with WiFi internet connectivity and are equipped with advanced audio-visual aids. Faculty and Students use laptops with multimedia facilities for classroom presentations, discussions and analysis. All classrooms are connected to the internet to facilitate the use of vast online resources for better classroom interactions. The Institute also has access to a large auditorium with a capacity to house more than 1500 people.
