Bharathidasan Institute of Management, Tiruchirappalli (known by its abbreviation BIM-Trichy) is an Indian business school established in 1984 in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, India.In August 1984, erstwhile Union Finance Minister, Bharat Ratna Shri. Chidambaram Subramaniam along with Prof. P. S. Mani Sundaram the Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University and Dr. V. Krishnamurthy, former Chairman of BHEL chaired a meeting of leading academicians and industrialists and an idea was born.  Their dream was to create an Academy that would be:

• Grounded in strong theoretical inputs
• Have proactive partnership with large organizations
• Provide students with a real world learning environment

With this vision in mind a partnership was signed with BHEL to create the country’s first ever Management Institute housed within the  BHEL industrial township in Tiruchirapally, Tamil Nadu. Thus was born Bharathidasan Institute of Management – a School of Excellence.  Today, more than 4000 BIM Alumni spread around the globe are significantly contributing to corporates and society.

BIM is affiliated to Bharathidasan University as an autonomous institution of excellence managed by an independently run professional society. Its flagship MBA program is approved by AICTE.

BIM offers one of the most coveted MBA programmes in India, apart from PhD and other Executive Development Programs.  The programs are offered on full-time mode. The college is often ranked among the well known Business Schools of the country ever since its inception.  Admission to BIM is through Common Admission Test (CAT), conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). In addition to appearing for the CAT Exam, candidates have to apply separately for admission to BIM. Candidates shortlisted based on CAT score will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview before the final selection is made.

In September 2011, BIM has started a Consulting Group to render business consultancy services to organizations with special focus on developing and supporting micro, small and medium enterprises. BIMCG is a BIM Consulting Group of Bharathidasan Institute of Management that works with organizations to improve performance on a sustainable basis.

Since its inception the institute has functioned from the BHEL Campus. The classes and hostel accommodation for students are provided in the MHD complex building in BHEL campus.

Admission Criteria

MBA Admission 2025

BIM Trichy MBA is a two-year full-time programme. The curriculum comprises core courses, elective subjects, with an option to a summer internship. The programme is focused on experiential learning opportunities such as live projects and corporate experiences. 

Eligibility for admission requires an applicant to have a bachelor's degree in any discipline and 50% aggregate marks. Admission also requires the applicant to take a national-level test (i.e., CAT, XAT, GMAT). Final selection is based on the overall profile, i.e., the academic record, test scores, work experience (if any), and the personal interview score of the shortlisted candidates.

Placement

BIM follows an engagement-driven placement policy. BIM encourages corporates to participate in curriculum design and sponsor and deliver some courses. We extensively engage with corporates to offer courses in new technology areas such as Digital HR, HR Analytics, Fintech, Blockchain applications, Derivative analytics, AI/ML, Robotic Process Automation, Advanced Marketing Analytics, ESG reporting, Green Finance, Digital Supply Chain, etc. This engagement model provides a platform for the recruiters to spot their future talents and guide them in planning their elective courses to make them productive from their first day at work. This engagement model allows the candidates to reflect on the work they would love to do. As a result of these engagement-driven placement initiatives, BIM students demonstrate a very high retention rate, resulting in recruiters’ satisfaction. The placement team strives to provide students with appropriate roles that leverage the candidate’s uniqueness and strengths. On the 3rd of May 2024, BIM Trichy laid the foundation stone for the new Bharathidasan Institute of Management campus at Trichy. Currently, the BIM Trichy campus, located inside the BHEL complex, is an industry-connected and academic environment, where students lodge in 2BHK hostels. The BIM Trichy campus is equipped with modern labs like Bloomberg Terminal, AI / ML Lab and NSE Trading Terminal, etc., that help in practical learning. Students have access to the facilities for sports like Basketball, football, and badminton, in addition to several student-led clubs focusing on leadership through engagement with cultural and professional club activities.

The BIM Trichy provides a wide computerized library with the large selection of different volumes. The library of BIM Trichy is also equipped with an enriched collection of International and Indian journals. There are CDs and online access to various journals including Harvard Business Review glorifying the BIM Trichy library resources

All classrooms are fully air-conditioned with WiFi internet connectivity and are equipped with advanced audio-visual aids. Faculty and Students use laptops with multimedia facilities for classroom presentations, discussions and analysis. All classrooms are connected to the internet to facilitate the use of vast online resources for better classroom interactions. The Institute also has access to a large auditorium with a capacity to house more than 1500 people.
