It is an engineering institution under the Shri Balaji Educational and Charitable Public Trust and founded by Shri M.K. Rajagopalan in 1997. It was the first self-financed technological institution of higher learning for the citizens of U.T. of Pudhucherry.

The Institution has implemented a quality management system as per the guidelines of ISO 9001-2008 and has been awarded ISO certification by TUV NORD. For Bachelor of Technology course offered by BCET candidates must have completed their higher secondary examination with 45% of aggregate marks in biotechnology/computer science/biology/chemistry, physics and mathematics. In the case of SC/ST/OBC candidates mere pass is required. For direct entry into the second year of the B. Tech course, candidates must have acquired appropriate diploma with not less than 60% of marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC candidates). For MCA admission, candidates must have completed their bachelor’s degree in economics/corporate secretaryship with subjects like computer science/statistics/business mathematics/general mathematics or B. Sc Statistics/mathematics. For M. Tech course, candidates must have completed their B.E/B.
