Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani commonly known as BITS Pilani is a private not for profit higher education institute and a deemed to be university located in Pilani Rajasthan. The institute developed from educational institutions established by the Birla family and was formally established as BITS Pilani in 1964. Late Shri G D Birla was its founder chairman. The primary purpose of the institute is to promote education and research in science technology humanities management and related areas and to prepare students for professional and societal contributions.

The Pilani campus is situated at Vidya Vihar adjacent to Pilani town in Jhunjhunu district Rajasthan.
