B. S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology was founded by Tamil businessman and philanthropist Dr. B. S. Abdur Rahman in 1984 as Crescent Engineering College, a Muslim minority institution approved by the All India Council of Technical Education and affiliated to University of Madras.

Dr. Buhari Syed Abdur Rahman, a well known personality in the field of Education, Economy and Industry and was also a professional par excellence who reached his pinnacle of scuccess by ultimate perseverence and elegance.  He was an ardent lover of the welfare of society who believed that “the world is for the winner when business is not just about self but also about society”. Dr. Abdur Rahman felt education to be the key to solve socio-economic problems of the society. Hence he founded a number of educational institutions through which a multitude of students have benefitted.

B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology, formerly B. S. Abdur Rahman University, is a private deemed university located in the Seethakathi Estate, Vandalur near Tambaram, a suburban area of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.  It is bang on the Chennai-Trichy National Highway NH 45, seven km from Tambaram Railway Station, 30 km from Chennai Moffusil Bus Terminus (Koyambedu) and 17 km from the Chennai International Airport. It is situated right next to Anna Zoological Park (Vandalur Zoo) and is spread over 64 acres of greenery along the GST road.The college was affiliated to University of Madras until the year 2001. From 2002, many engineering colleges in the city of Chennai changed affiliations to Anna University. University of Madras became an umbrella university, exclusively for non-professional, Art & Sciences colleges that offer BSc & BCom degrees. Many colleges chose not to affiliate with any university and became deemed universities in their own right. Crescent Engineering College was affiliated to Anna University until 2008. It was elevated to deemed to be university status as B. S. Abdur Rahman University in December 2008. In 2017, it was renamed as B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology following the UGC request to drop the "University" from the name.

Admission Criteria

Eligibility

• Admission to B.Tech. Degree Programme is based on the performance of the candidate in Crescent Institute Engineering Admission Test (CIEAT) and in the qualifying examination. Candidates having JEE main score 100 and above are exempted from CIEAT.
  
• Crescent Institute Engineering Admission Test (CIEAT) is conducted in major cities all over India during the 4th week of April, every year.
  
• The result of CIEAT is published in the Institute website.
  
• Candidates are called for counselling based on their merit in the CIEAT and in the qualifying examination or JEE main score.
  
• Candidates should have passed 12th standard examination conducted by State Board / CBSE / ISC or equivalent examination with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
  
• Candidates who have studied in Regular, Full time and Formal Education alone are eligible to apply.
  
• Age Limit: Candidates date of birth should fall on or after 1st July 2000.
  
• English as one of the subjects of qualifying examination
  
• Mathematics, physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects
  
• Candidates completed A Levels, IB, STPM, HSC, WASSCE, NCEA Level 3, American High School Diploma, etc. with minimum 50% aggregate or equivalent grade in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and a pass in English
  
• Candidates studied under American High School system are eligible, if the above courses have been studied in the 11th and 12th grades or ‘AP’ (Advanced Placement) courses
  

PG Eligibility 

BS Abdur Rahman University Admission to the PG course is mainly based on Merit, including entrance exam scores. However, to be eligible for the PG course, candidates must have maintained a minimum aggregate of 50% consistently from 10+2+3 through graduation in any discipline from a recognized University or Institution.

PhD Admission

BS Abdur Rahman University offers various specializations under its PhD program. BS Abdur Rahman University Admission to the PhD program requires candidates to have a master's degree in a relevant field with a minimum of 50% marks.

Placement 

B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science & Technology has an exclusive Career Development Centre headed by Dr. K. Ganesh. The placement process begins with Pre-placement talks by companies, usually scheduled in the month of August and the placement process commences from the month of September. Participation by a large number of reputed organizations year-after-year is a testimonial for the reputation of the Institute. The primary function of the placement office is three fold, the first and foremost is creating awareness about the placement process through a series of awareness programmes. The next task is to train them to face the forthcoming placement seasons through a set of placement training through experts in the sector. The last but the most important function is to streamline placement process as per the convenience of students and recruiters. An elaborate slotting criteria is used to slot the companies for the placement process.
