Canara Engineering College (CEC) is a premier engineering institute of the Mangalore region. CEC is established by the Canara Group of Institutions (Canara High School Association) founded by the late Ammembal Subba Rao Pai. The college is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, recognized by Government of Karnataka and approved by AICTE, New Delhi.

Canara Engineering College is run by Canara High School Association (CHSA), an association based in Mangalore contributing towards Konkani linguistic minority education. The group was founded by the late Ammembal Subba Rao Pai (also founder of Canara Bank) in 1891. Ammembal Subbarao Pai was a social reformer and a philanthropist who aimed at imparting modern education blended with ancient cultural values to the youth of Dakshina Kannada. With this in mind he started the Canara High School Association with its primary project being the Canara High School, which was established in 1891 and functions even today. The group which is now primarily funded by alumni, also runs several other educational institutions in and around Mangalore.

The College was started in the year 2001 with 180 seats in 3 Branches of Engineering. Two more Engineering branches were added in the year 2004. At present it has 8 sections with a total intake of 504 seats including 24 seats of SNQ.

Canara Engineering College (CEC) was established in 2001 in Mangalore, Karnataka. The college is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum. The college offers BE in 5 different fields of engineering and technology along with an M.Tech degree course in Computer Science and Engineering.

Application process conducted by Canara Engineering College is strictly offline.
For admission in BE, the applicants must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, English, Mathematics/ Biology/ Computer Science/ Electronics and a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate.
Selection criterion is based on the rank scored in JEE Main/ KCET.
For M.Tech, a bachelor’s degree in engineering and technology (BE/ B.Tech) with atleast 50% marks is mandatory.
Applicants are selected on the basis of merit in GATE/ PGCET.

Canara Engineering College is engaged in offering 5 courses under Bachelor of Engineering degree. Specialization includes Electronics and Communication, Computer Science, Mechanical, Information Science, Electrical & Electronics Engineering. The minimum eligibility criterion to apply for admission in these courses is to have scored minimum 45% in 10+2 or equivalent examination from any recognised board with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology and English as subjects. Final selection of candidates is based on the merit in KCET/ JEE Main.

Training, Career Guidance and Placement Cellis established as an integral part of the College with an active role in career services for its Students. The vital role of T&P Cell is to groom & shape the students and make them industry ready so that they can face the future challenges in the real world. Every student pursuing a professional career in engineering has an ambition to obtain a challenging job in a company of repute (a brand name) and make a successful career. The Department conducts various training sessions for students by eminent trainers from the industry and conduct workshops and seminar to enhance their skills.

CEC Scholarships
CHSA - The cleaning and hygiene suppliers associations (CHSA)scheme is for the children of employees of CHSA. The judging criteria for the scheme are based on the need, endeavor, and overall personality. Winning applicants are helped with Rs 1500 per annum for 3 years. CEC, under this scheme, has given scholarships to 216 students.

RECOGNITION FOR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE: Based on the academic performance and the needs of students, CEC has given scholarships to 212 students.

Hostel Facilities

College has separate hostel facilities for boys and girls .Each room is spacious, well ventilated with natural light. Provision is made for the use of PC's. Two students are accommodated in each room. A single room can be allotted to a student depending on the availability of rooms. Indoor game facilities like carrom, table tennis and reading room facilities are provided in each hostel. Hot water is provided with solar system. At present, 260 boys and 260 girls can be accommodated in these hostels.Separate facilities for vegetarian and non vegetarian food is made for the hostelers. Estimated cost of Boarding and Lodging in Hostels is around Rs.40,000/- per annum. New Hostel Blocks with attached toilets are also available. Additional rental of Rs 6000/- is charged annually for the same.

Laboratory Facilities

Physics and Chemistry laboratories are housed in spacious blocks, which has natural light and ventilation. These laboratories are well equipped with latest equipment. Keeping in mind the importance of Computer and Information Science Engineering, CEC has provided state of the art technology in the form of Graphics Lab, Database lab., Micro-Processor lab., Logic Design lab, System & Networking Lab and Project lab for the final year students. The computing facilities are fully equipped with IT infrastructure supported by qualified faculty to cater to the academic needs of budding professionals aspiring for careers in IT industry. Thecommlab trained technical staff is available to help out the students to apply the theoretical concepts, which they learn in Class Rooms. The state of the art Laboratories are duly recognised as key resource for providing hands on experience to the students.

Library

The College library has got an independent building with carpet area of 740 sqm, spread in 2 floors. Spacious reading halls are provided for students. The library has 11800 books mostly text books, reference books, hand books, encyclopedia, etc. Competitive examination books on GRE, TOEFL, CAT, MAT and GATE are also available. Two books for one/two weeks duration and one book daily for overnight use are provided. More than 45 journals are being subscribed annually and International journals such as IEEE are also available. Library in-house activities are automated and we are planning to get Internet link to other good libraries in the country through DELNET.

Classroom Facilities

Class rooms are properly furnished with state-of-the art equipments which are well equipped with educational audio-visual systems, LCD projectors & Network connection for providing a conducive atmosphere for learning. The classrooms are also spacious, well lighted & well ventilated.

Transportation
Around 20 college buses, everyday provide transportation in and out the campus covering city and around the city making a huge network of transportation. Dedicated automobiles have been reserved for emergency.

CEC Mangalore has eighteen college buses plying through different routes from neighbouring places of BC Road, Puttur, Mangalore and Suratkal City. Subsidised fees for staff and concessional bus passes for the students are available.
