Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute (CHRI) is a constituent college of Chettinad Academy of Research and Education (CARE).  A deemed to be university, established in 2006, CHRI has been providing quality education and continues to be a preferred destination for aspiring students from all over the country. CHRI is located at Kelambakkam, Tamil Nadu. Urappakkam Railway Station is 22.7 km away and Chettinad Health City Bus Stand is 1 km away from the college. Chennai International Airport is 31.6 km away and it will take around 1 hour 7 minutes to reach the college. CARE has a 100 acre lush green campus at Kelambakkam on Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR), popularly called the IT corridor of Chennai. Situated around 30 kms away from Chennai Raj Bhavan, the campus is serene and tranquil without the hustle and bustle of the city and yet having access to all the modern day amenities.  Students can take a cab or a bus to reach Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute. The college is well connected with all modes of transportation.

CHRI has been approved by National Medical Council (NMC).  The institute has secured 49th rank in the Medical category in NIRF 2021 Ranking with an overall score of 45.23 out of 100. 

CHRI initially commenced with an approved intake capacity of 150 students which has been enhanced to 250 seats since 2019 onwards. Today, CHRI offers programs at all levels including 1 undergraduate (MBBS), 19 Postgraduate (MD/MS), 7 super speciality (DM/MCh) and 1 Post Graduate diploma course in clinical embryology. The eligibility for admission is NEET / NEET PG entrance exam, as applicable.

After the Qualify the NEET entrance exam, candidates must participate in the Tamil Nadu NEET PG Counselling conducted by the Tamil Nadu Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board. The next step is seat allotment, document verification, and fee payment is the last step to confirm admission.

Eco-friendly Campus :

The University campus is pollution free, green campus with battery operated vehicles, bi-cycles, sewage treatment plants and in-house rain water harvesting facilities. The infrastructure and facilities of the Institution are comparable with the best in a scenic campus and an atmosphere congenial to education and healthcare. Power needs are met through energy generated from wind mills situated in southern Tamil Nadu. Every student will have access to safe, RO purified drinking water in the campus.

Practical Laboratory:

All basic science departments, Nursing & Allied Health sciences departments have well equipped and well ventilated laboratories to provide the students hands on training in respective specialties.

Lecture Theatre:

Eleven state-of-the-art (gallery type) lecture theatres, with equipped latest audio visual aids in addition to 50 classrooms and 29 laboratories.

Moot Court:

Moot Court basically means a replica of a real court where legal proceedings, trials take place and act as professionals and take up all the responsibilities and duties according to their role to see their ability to think creatively and answer convincingly when questioned and show their oratory, writing and persuasive skills. Mooting teaches students to ‘think like a lawyer’, i.e. to analyze problems logically, applying the facts of a problem to the law and presenting complex legal arguments simply and concisely. It assists students to develop skills in written and oral communication, legal research and advocacy, to gain self-confidence and to build character. Mooting assists students to understand courtroom processes and how to run a case. The School of Law organizes regular mooting activities specifically for certain subjects as specified in the academic calendar. The School of Law also plans to organize a National Level Moot Court Competition to mark its presence in the national mooting arena. In order to promote the mooting culture the School of Law dedicates itself to a policy of sending their students to various moot court competitions across the country and abroad.

Architecture Studio:

Architecture studio provides students with a preliminary understanding of architecture design and introduces them to key issues that underpin the social and physical construction of the built environment. Auditorium:

An air-conditioned auditorium with acoustics of International standards and a seating capacity of over 1500 is available for all special functions of the University. Library:

Spread over 32,000 sq. ft., the library is well-stacked with the latest editions of professional books (both Indian and International), magazines and journals. In tune with the times, a virtual library with internet access, Medlar search facilities, media resource services, computerized database access and E-access are also available for journals and –e books.s over the course of an entire semester. Such studio projects are expected to be comprehensive in their development and execution. The final evaluation is a presentation of project to the thesis committee for approval.

Skills Lab:

Strengthens the competency based healthcare training. It serves as a prototype demonstration & learning facility for medical students & Junior doctors so that they develop desired competencies

.Learning Management System:

A web-based high-level, strategic solution for planning, delivering and managing all learning / teaching events including online, virtual classrooms, and instructor led course to facilitate “anytime, anyplace” access to learning content.

Internet Access:

Broadband connectivity with a speed of 60 mbps is available throughout the day within the campus. The entire campus is a Wi-Fi enabled. All the medical students are provided with laptops.

Hostel:

The University offers a comfortable living accommodation within the campus, with separate hostels for boys and girls. The hostel mess provides hygienic multi cuisine to suit diverse tastes and preferences, truly making it a home away from home.

Healthcare:

Given its own Hospital in the premises, CARE provides healthcare facilities to each student including “preventive, curative and palliative interventions”. On admission, each student undergoes a medical examination. Annual health check up is carried out as a routine. The students are immunized against infectious diseases as and when required.

Recreation:

To encourage extra-curricular activities and to ensure a healthy, stress-free life, the University has made sincere efforts to build several sports facilities for the students. At present the Institute has a basketball court, cricket ground, tennis court, football ground as well as facilities for indoor games namely chess, carom, table tennis and badminton. There are two ultra modern indoor stadia. A swimming pool with life guards is available in the boys’ hostel campus.

Transport:

Comfortable and convenient air-conditioned bus transport is provided to the students residing in & around the city of Chennai, for easy transportation to the institute and back. Pollution free battery driven vehicles are operated for transport within the campus. In addition bicycles are available for use within the green zone areas of the campus for students & faculty.
