Overview:

Doctor of Philosophy or PhD (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) is a doctorate level course which involves in depth study of various aspects of electrical and electronic engineering and generally takes around 5 years to complete. Students holding an M.Phil degree in Electronics or qualifying for an M.E. or M.Tech. can apply for this course.

All candidates are required to qualify for the NET/ GATE Entrance test. Final year students who are about to take the degree examination can also apply for the course if they submit the attested copies of their qualifying degree certificates. Selected candidates will be notified about the interview and group discussion by the respective colleges/universities. Some colleges/universities may also conduct an entrance examination of their own along with the interview.

Students who are looking to apply for the PhD course should have a valid GATE score. Students also need to have an M.E. or M.Tech. Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum aggregate of 60%. However, candidates who have M.Phil. Degree is exempted from attending any entrance examination. Universities/colleges generally conduct interviews, group discussion or even their own entrance examination to filter the candidates further. Admission is given to a candidate according to the merit list prepared by the college which is in-turn based on the candidate’s overall scores in both the entrance examination and the personal interview or group discussion if any. The admission process varies according to different colleges/University, but the basic steps are given below:

  • Find the application form from the official university website.
  • Fill in all the details.
  • Pay the application fee and submit the application. Some colleges require the students to mail the hard copy of the application to the college along with the necessary documents.
