B.Ed Zoology is an undergraduate program in education that equips you with skills in teaching Zoology to school students. The B.Ed course in Zoology is of 2 years duration. Zoology is the branch of biology that deals with the study of animals. It concerns studying animals both living and extinct, their evolution, structure, classification and distribution in the animal kingdom. It is also about their interaction and relationship with the ecosystems surrounding them. It's through the subject of zoology that students in secondary schools get to learn about the animal kingdom in detail. For example through animal physiology we learn about the respiratory, circulatory, nervous and other important systems specific to the living world.

B.Ed or bachelor of education in one of the fields of biological sciences is essentially useful or kind of mandatory for those aspiring to work in the teaching sector in secondary and higher secondary schools. The program aims to equip you with the necessary skills and methodologies that are needed for teaching zoology to secondary and higher secondary students. Other than that there are the usual lessons that are common for every budding teacher. There will be topics on education psychology, education philosophy, counseling, evaluation, assessment, curriculum planning and so on.

Graduation in the field of biological sciences, with zoology as one of the subjects and a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate are eligible for this course. Those with post graduate in zoology may apply too. Admission to the course is mostly through entrance tests or merit of marks obtained in qualifying exam.

Admission procedure for B.Ed in Zoology:

  • The admission process for B. Ed in Zoology can be either through a direct admission or through an eligibility test conducted by the university.
  • The type of admission process to be followed depends on the type of college. In order to get admission through the eligibility test, the candidates have to appear for the aptitude test conducted by the university followed by the final interview round.
  • The candidates who clear both the rounds will be further called for the counselling process through which the admission will be provided.
  • On the other hand, the colleges taking direct admission provide admission on the basis of marks obtained by the student in the graduation level qualifying exam.

Eligibility For B.Ed Zoology:

  • The candidate must have pursued a graduation level degree in any stream from a recognised institute/ college.
  • Minimum aggregate of 50% (45% for the reserved candidates) in the qualifying examination.
  • The candidate must have passed the graduation level degree with one of the main subjects as Zoology.
  • The candidate must have acquired an aggregate of 50% in the Botany subject alone at the graduation level.
