M.E - Environmental Engineering

Overview

M.E Environmental Engineering is a 2-Year postgraduate degree program that aims to acquire in-depth knowledge in Environmental Engineering.  The course mainly deals with the skills and knowledge needed to identify, formulate, analyze and solve complex problems related to Water Supply, Sewerage, Sewage Treatment, Waste Management, Environmental Impact Assessment, Industrial Pollution Prevention and Control.  Environmental Engineering encourages students to find scientific solutions for environmental problems like Automobile Pollution and finding Renewable Energy Sources.

Environmental Engineering is an interdisciplinary field that blends engineering and science to tackle environmental challenges such as pollution, waste management, and resource conservation. As a sub-discipline of Civil and Chemical Engineering, it aims to protect human health, safeguard ecosystems, and improve the quality of life by addressing environmental issues.

The M.E in Environmental Engineering course is concerned with natural resource management, the use of water, environmental pollution, and human health. A post graduate Environmental Engineer is in charge of enhancing environmental quality and public health and developing ways to prevent natural resource destruction.

Those who have completed BE/B.Tech degree or graduates with an equivalent qualification are eligible to apply to M.E Environmental Engineering program.  Admission to this course is usually on the basis of a valid GATE Score in the relevant branch. However, some colleges offer the course on the basis of institution-specific entrance exams or merit.

The growing imbalance between humans and nature has made environmental conservation a key priority in the 21st century. In response, initiatives like Environmental Engineering courses have been introduced globally to promote sustainable development and resource management.  These courses focus on creating policies and technologies for managing contaminated lands and safeguarding both people and the environment. The course is multi-disciplinary and combines the knowledge of subjects like Soil Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, and Biology.

The M.E in Environmental Engineering program is available at most Engineering institutes across India and abroad.  In India the course is offered in various government and private institutes like Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, College of Engineering, Chennai, Erode Sengunthar Engineering College, Chennai, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, BVM Engineering College being some of the prestigious ones.
