Overview :

A Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) is a three-year postgraduate program in India during which students undergo rigorous academic coursework, clinical rotations, and research activities.  The course is program designed for a career practice in the field of Faciomaxillary Surgery and prepares students to treat diseases, injuries, and defects in the face, head, neck, jaws, and mouth.

The curriculum is designed to develop Clinical, Academic, and Interpersonal Communicative skills for a wide range of career options in Oral and Maxillofacial departments. Students undergo Academic Coursework, Clinical Rotations, and Research Activities  

A BDS graduate who has completed a one-year rotatory internship in a recognized Dental college and registered with the State Dental Council is eligible to pursue this MDS program. The admissions to MDS in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery courses are based on the entrance exam NEET MDS. The minimum eligibility for this course is to be a BDS graduate degree holder with a minimum of 50% from a recognized university.

Admission Procedure For M.D.S  Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery:

The Admission procedure for MDS Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery typically invovles the following:

  • Admission into the MDS program is through the NEET MDS exam which is conducted every year in the month of December.
  • Admission into MDS OMFS is through All India and State level counsellings
  • The All-India Counselling starts before the State counsellings is conducted by the MCC only in online mode.
  • The notification for the All-India counseling is announced around March. Details related to the counseling process such as the seat matrix, college fees, and merit list are also released.
  • A date slot is announced for registration for the counseling and payment of fees.
  • Candidates are invited to lock their choices of college and branch. After 1 week of choice filling, the results are declared and the first round of counseling begins.
  • The NEET MDS All India counseling is usually taken in 4 rounds over a course of 5-6 months.
  • States conduct separate state-level counseling for seats under the state quota and those which are surrendered from the All India combined counseling.
  • Apart from All India and State level counsellings, the All-India Institutes of Medical Sciences conduct separate counseling for admission into the various AIIMS institutions and JIPMER in Pondicherry.

  • The candidate must possessr a Permanent State Dental Council Registration Certificate.
  • The candidate should have attempted the NEET MDS exam and hold a valid NEET MDS scorecard.
  • The candidate must obtain qualifying marks in NEET MDS. The Cutoff scores of NEET MDS (for All India 50% quota) are 50th Percentile for candidates from General and EWS categories, 40th Percentile for OBC, SC, and ST candidates, and 45th Percentile for PwD candidates of General category.
