Overview:

A DM in Neonatology in India is an advanced 3-year postgraduate program in the field of medicine that trains doctors to specialize in the care of newborn infants. Neonatology is the study of problems and issues of the newborn, especially the premature or the ones with other ailments. The course has been approved by the Medical Council of India and is a sub-specialization program that falls under Pediatrics.

The goal of this program is to develop highly skilled Clinicians and Researchers who can provide the best care for newborns. The program includes training In Intensive Care, Community Newborn Care, and Academic Teaching.

The subjects and details of the course curriculum may vary from college to college. The important subjects covered are Perinatology, Neonatal Resuscitation, Neonatal Ventilation, Blood gas and Acid-Base Disorders, Neonatal Assessments and Follow-Up, Body Systems Transport of Neonatal.  A person studying DM in neonatology is one who handles risky and complex situations in the case of infants. A Neonatologist is required to take care of the newborn and in case of serious ailments or risk to the baby, should also assist during the time of the delivery in the OT (Operation Theatre).
