B.E - Marine Engineering

Overview :

A B.E. in Marine Engineering is a four-year undergraduate engineering program in India that prepares students to design, construct, operate, and maintain marine vessels.  This Engineering course is the study that deals with the production, design, development and maintenance of the sea equipment which are used in boats, ships, submarines or any other water transport.

Students learn about the theories and methods of marine engineering, including the propulsion, electrical, refrigeration, and steering systems of ships. They also learn about the construction and maintenance of marine buildings and offshore oil and gas installations.

The students are also introduced to the methods for preparing, collecting, and presenting data through written reports that involve the planning, analysis, and evaluation of each marine engineering experiment.

This course draws its principles from various fields like Engineering, Oceanography, Ecology, Economics and Biology, thus incorporating them into an engineering program. This course will also provide in-depth entrepreneur opportunities where the professionals can opt to work independently as a private boat designer and as a other aquatic vehicle designer and manufacturer.

To be eligible for a B.E. in Marine Engineering, students must have completed 10+2 with at least 60% marks in the PCM group and 50% marks in English. Marine engineering courses include both theoretical and practical exams, with performance evaluation exams held at the end of every semester. Entrance exams for marine engineering courses include JEE Main, WBJEE, TNEA, and COMEDK UGET.

After graduating from this course candidates can work as marine engineers on board ships anywhere in the world in shipbuilding companies, at harbor and port, in navy jobs, research and deployment centres, in colleges and universities as a professor, and any other required field.

The average salary for marine engineers in India varies based on factors such as specialization, experience, and employment sector. Entry-level marine engineers can expect to earn around INR 4 LPA to 7 LPA, while experienced professionals can earn salaries exceeding INR 15 LPA.

There are roughly 47 institutes in India offering a B.Tech. in marine engineering, with six of these institutions owned by public or government entities.
