Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (short: IIIT-Allahabad or IIIT-A) is a premier public technical institute located in Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad), Uttar Pradesh. The institute was established in 1999 (set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development) and was conferred deemed-university status in 2000; later it was declared an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament. IIIT-A was created to develop high-quality manpower and research capability in information technology and allied disciplines, to nurture industry-ready professionals and to serve as a centre of excellence in IT education and research.
The institute’s residential campus is at Devghat (Jhalwa), Prayagraj – 211015, located on the outskirts of the city and easily reachable from the railway station and airport. The campus covers about 100 acres, laid out using a distinctive Penrose-geometry design, with academic blocks, research centres, hostels, sports facilities and green landscaping.
