Don Bosco College, Dharmapuri, a constituent of an Educational Network of the Salesians of Don Bosco, Chennai Province, Tamil Nadu, was founded in 2007 on Adhiyaman Bypass Road, Sogathur, by Rev. Fr. Johnson Antonysamy, SDB, Rector and Rev. Dr. C. M. Varghese, SDB, the first Principal. It is the first and only minority institution, established in Dharmapuri to train and equip the young minds for a challenging and fulfilling career under Periyar University, Salem. Built in a serene and calm environment, the College provides a holistic ambient for the growth of the rural students.

Don Bosco College stands head and shoulders above others in winning trophies in games and sports in Periyar University, Salem, besides forming University gold medallists every year. University gold medallists and University rank holders add feathers to the cap in the academic journey of the College. The primary objectives of the College are for the public benefit, to advance education, experiencing religion, learning and research and the conduct of divine service in the College, to strengthen the College’s access and outreach programme, to enrich the teaching capabilities of the College, and to continue to improve academic performance in the examinations.

We, the Salesians of Don Bosco, provide students an outstanding social, cultural and sporting opportunities. Besides, we take a lead in sustaining and enhancing the ability of the College to continue as one of the best academic institutions of the state, in the face of increasing regional and national competition. Moreover, we recognise and value all our alumni as life-long members of the College community and appreciate for their continuing involvement in and support of the College.

The College enables the young to find meaning in life to seek guidance and strength from above to foster a spirituality that can sustain them through the inevitable ups and downs of life, according to each one’s belief and religious background. To become a centre that moulds seekers of knowledge into integrated persons and upright citizens of academic competence, spiritual maturity and social consciousness, anchored in Don Bosco’s philosophy of education.

In addition, the same management runs the Don Bosco College of Education in a nearby campus in order to give a further boost to the aspiration of students to become professionally qualified teachers.

Candidates mast have passed with 10+3 year Diploma can also eligibile. Candidates completed any UG Degree from any recognized university are eligible to apply. B.A. Candidate must have passed 10+2 examinations from a recognized board.

Placements: Almost 50% of students got placed in our course. The salary packages are also decent. Around 50% of students got internships in top companies. Infrastructure: Facilities and infrastructure are great.

Scholarship Committee

The Scholarship Committee is headed and coordinated by Rev. Dr. Edwin George, SDB, Rector and Secretary. It is composed of a group of responsible chapter members and, whenever possible, should be guided by the Coordinator. The College provides credible scholarship and financial supports to all deserving students. With highly accommodative scholarship structure, the College strives to motivate and encourage all students to become educated par excellence. The purpose of this policy is to set out the criteria that are applicable and the procedures that will be followed to select scholarship recipients. It is the function of this committee to encourage, develop, and evaluate all scholarship programmes.

Functions

The functions of the Scholarship Committee are:

• To evaluate the chapter scholarship programme and modify or improve as necessary,
• To arrange for suitable presentation of academic awards,
• To assist the recruitment committee in examining the scholastic potential of prospects,
• To maintain a healthy attitude toward scholastic attainment, and
• To assist the officers in establishing and maintaining rules and regulations which provide proper study conditions.

During the Academic Year 2021-2022, the College facilitated 140 SC/ST students to get scholarship from the Government of Tamil Nadu. About 132 minority students also received scholarship from the Minority Commission. About 758 students were benefitted through Uzhavar Scholarship. 100 students were benefitted through IVDP Scholarship. 14 Physically Challenged students were given financial help by the Government of Tamil Nadu. Don Bosco Merit Scholarship was awarded to 57 students. Above all, Don Bosco Foundation issued scholarship to 50 orphan and economically poor students. Sports persons with outstanding records were also completely exempted from paying fees.

Don Bosco College has well stocked Library, Cafeteria, Auditorium, Hospital / Medical Facilities, Hospital / Medical Facilities, Sports Complex and Lab facility for its students. Institute has 1 well equipped library with 15764 books 13 Journals.

A full-fledged Transport department functions in the College with buses to provide transport facility to students and staff from various places. This service is offered ensuring a hassle-free and safe transportation.

The College runs 13 buses for providing transport facility to staff and students from various places in Dharmapuri district. The number of buses will be increased corresponding to the increase in the intake of students.
