Dr.MGR-Janaki College was founded by Dr.Latha Rajendran in the year 1996 as a tribute to Late Bharat Ratna Dr. M.G. Ramachandran, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and his wife Mrs.Janaki Ramachandran. Under the dedicated leadership of our Founder, the college grew from its humble beginnings to become a premier institution producing rank holders in multiple disciplines. Due to the able guidance of illustrious personalities like Late Mr.N.P.V.Ramasamy Udayar, Late Dr.N.C.Raghavachari, Late Dr.Jeppiaar, the college has had a qualitative and quantitative progress. The college is managed by SSPL Charities.
The College was founded with 70 students and 16 Faculty Members and has grown rapidly to its present status. More than 4000 students are enrolled in 14 undergraduate programmes and 5 post graduate programmes and a unique five year integrated programme M.A. Natya (a combination of dance, music, theatre, history and philosophy) the only one of its kind in Tamilnadu.
To fashion competent, cultured, confident young women endowed with noble values that make them a shining star in the family and society.
To financially empower women by freeing them from economic dependence. Towards achieving this end, the institution has embarked on various job-oriented courses that are in demand in the employment market.
To motivate women to look beyond academic qualifications and develop core competencies and attain self-actualization. The knowledge components, the skill sets and attitudinal frameworks are so designed that help women in achieving this.
To achieve inclusive education. As part of this goal as well as reflecting Bharat Ratna Dr. MGR’s concern for the hearing impaired and physically challenged, the institution integrates as many of such students as possible in the mainstream.
To build a gender-neutral society by infusing in students a sense of equality, purpose, accountability, responsibility and personal strength to meet the challenges with stoic courage.
To help students become leaders of tall standing, serving and building the society. By setting rigorous academic standards and giving students the support they need to meet those standards, the institution enables them to unlock their potentials and discover their own capabilities which provide them with the required confidence to lead.
To develop well-rounded personalities through innovative and robust curricula. Learning to learn is the focus of the institution and not merely training for any specific vocation. Learning at the institution is an experience in itself.
Students are required to register along with the completed application forms. A self addressed stamped envelope should be submitted along with the application. Candidates from SC/ST/Christian Adi Dravida Communities need not pay any fees for registration. After registration, communication will be sent to those students who have been provisionally selected. The provisionally selected student has to attend an interview along with her parents on the date and time specified in the intimation card. If the student fails to attend the interview on the date and time mentioned, the provisional selection is automatically cancelled. All admissions are provisional, subject to approval by the University of Madras.
The following certificates should be produced in original at the time of interview.
The Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Course (or its equivalent) Mark certificate (Original +2 photocopies attested by a Gazetted Officer) for UG Courses and provisional Certificate or Degree Certificate for PG courses.
UG Courses: Candidates who have passed an examination other than the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary/CBSE/ICSE/National Open School should produce an eligibility certificate from the University of Madras.
PG Courses: Candidates from any University other than the University of Madras should produce eligibility certificate from the University of Madras.
Transfer Certificate.
Conduct Certificate.
Medical Certificate from the Nearest Government General Hospital( required if the student belongs to SC/ST)
Community Certificate (One photocopy Attested by a Gazetted Officer) if the student belongs to BC/ MBC/SC/ ST.
Income Certificate of Parent from a person not below the rank of Tashildar (if the Student belongs to SC/ST/Christian Adi Dravida)
Payment Of Fees
If the provisional selection is confirmed, the candidate should be prepared to pay the fees as mentioned in the prospectus immediately. Generally a student once admitted to a course will not be permitted to withdraw. However, under unavoidable circumstances, withdrawal may be allowed provided the student pays the fees for the whole academic year. Fees once paid is not refundable under any circumstances.
The College is keen on providing every experience to its students to enrich them as worthy job-seekers. To achieve this, the college organizes various programmes for students to enhance soft skills, professional communication and personality through career counselling by professional agencies/experts. Students are also supported in preparing professional resumes through workshops specially focusing on resume building.
The Career Development Center also coordinates with the departments in organizing Industry oriented workshops, leadership talks, lectures, competitions and Workshops including specialized niche areas.
The centre invites the best recruiters in the market during the internship and placement season covering various sectors such as computer science, IT, Banking and finance, Software Development, Testing, Medical Transcription etc. The sheer diversity of recruiters across all domains and the extensive participation of different companies helps in the placement of several students.
More than 1000 students are placed every year in good companies with excellent compensation packages. The corporate preparedness of the students is indicated by the significantly large number of students hired by the recruiters as compared to other institutes.
Mrs.Rajyashree Iraianbu, Director of the center received an award for securing 100% placement for our students, from the Vice chancellor, University of Madras during the Convocation held in November 2019.


Loan/ Scholarship Provisions: In 2020-2023 fees for the batch are Rs. 45000 for each year. I don't have an interest in getting placed in the companies so I'm interested to study post-graduation. But my college can make interviews from so many companies for placements.

Library
Central Library provides a range of collections, services and study spaces for students.The library is housed in a large hall stocked with a wide variety of reading material. The Library has a total collection of about 32,000 books and provides access to more than 100 journals and magazines. Online E-RESOURCES, UGC-N-List, DELNET and INFLIBNET facility which provides access to a number on line articles is also available. Book bank with more than 2500 books is available. Photocopying facility is provided for the benefit of Students and Faculty. The College has an institutional membership with the British Council Library, The American Library (USCG) and University of Madras which the students and faculty make use of to widen their knowledge in diverse fields. The college is a member of NDLI club (National Digital Library club).WiFi facility is available for students and faculty members. Apart from the Central library, each Department has a functional library of select books pertaining to the syllabus.
