Dr. Somervell Memorial CSI Medical College established in 2002 is attached to the Dr. Somervell Memorial Mission Hospital established in 1894 at Karakonam, a village, in the southern border of the Thiruvananthapuram District of the State of Kerala. The Hospital, the Medical College and all other institutions attached are run by of the Church of South India - South Kerala Diocese and managed by the South Kerala Medical Mission. The South Kerala Medical Mission is a Charitable Society registered under The Travancore - Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies' Registration Act XII of 1955 (S.No 27/76 of 1955).

Scholarship

The basic fee for tuition is 6.16 lakhs per annum, for general and minority seats. For NRI seats, it is 25 lakhs. But, additional fees for hostel, mess and equipment included were over 7 lakhs. The price of record books and other materials are expensive. The college also demands money from students for conducting any arts or cultural programs. The scholarship is available for students belonging to the SC category. Campus jobs are not available. Student postings are not paid

The tuition fee is about 7 lacs for the first year and for all the years the fees remain the same with not too much hike. Then various scholarships are provided by the institute itself and we can apply for other scholarships also. The stipend will be available when you will be in the internship and the college will provide you with a loan facility also for the completion of the course.

Medical colleges do not follow conventional placement systems. Graduates complete:

Dr. S M C S I Medical College Library was established in 2002 at the time of the inception of the college. It is a computerized information system and all the functions of the library is activated through automation. Auto Lib software system is used for the computerization of the library. Central library is an open access system and adjacent to Medical college & Hospital. It is easily accessible to the departments, class rooms, hostels and staff residences. The library is a three storied building and it occupies a total area of about 1316.98 square metre. It is one of the biggest Medical college libraries of the nation. The information storage and retrieval programmes of the central library are growing past. There are 20 departmental libraries in addition to the central library of the college. It has a collection of books, bound journals, CDS, Video cassets and floppies etc.
