DVS College of Arts, Science & Commerce, a First Grade College was opened on the 1st of July 1966. clip_image002-copy-150x150Initially the college offered only one Science combination along with the traditional courses in Humanities. But the college felt the need to respond to the changing scenario of the society and opened many need based courses over the years. Now the institution offers three different courses (B.A, B.Sc, B.C.A & B.Com) with a variety of combinations. Earlier the college was affiliated to University of Mysore and now it is affiliated to Kuvempu University.

Resultantly the College has earned a name by virtue of its disciplined functioning and its achievements in the academic field as well as in the field of sports and games. Based on its infrastructure, learning resources and achievements,the College is accredited by NAAC at B+ level and College is recognized as District Lead College for Total Quality Management(TQM) by Government of Karnataka.

Right from its inception the college has been in the lime light by getting many ranks and has become synonym for excellence. It is worthwhile to mention in this context that our students have found top positions in Research institutions and various companies both in India and abroad.

To impart quality education and to create an academic ambiance the college has been organizing a number of unique programmes like National and State Level Seminars, Workshops and Exhibitions both for teachers and students.The rank list of our students is lengthening year after year and reflects this the academic atmosphere of the collage.

Our College is situated in campus area of 2 acres. Our College has well furnished library. Most of the departments have departmental library. Health centre is established which works during the class hours and a Senior doctor will be present at the centre for the benefit of students and staff.

NCC and NSS programs of our institution also extend community oriented extension activities for students where they interface the harsh realities of rural life. All-round personality development programmes which inculcate the values of tolerance and togetherness are preached and practised here. Some of our students have brought laurels even in this field.

Admissions
Procedure:

The admission process for the first year degree begins after the announcement of the II year PUC results. The admission will be made under the guidelines and rules framed by the Kuvempu University and Reservation facilities as per the Government of Karnataka.

Our college has well established career guidance and placement cell.

Several teachers of the college and Devendra Keerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji of Humcha an Alumni member, and several public have deposited money for the prize amount to be distributed among the meritorious students in different faculties.

Encouragement is given in the form of 21 endowment prizes for eligible students with good academic performance .
The awards are also given by teaching and non-teaching staff of the college.

Facilities :-

Library

The College library has 38,300 books fulfilling the curricular needs of the undergraduate students. Our college has an excellent Library with all modern facilities. It contains a well classified and extensive collection of books. All books in the library have been computerized.

Reading room of the college library should be used only for quiet study. Students are not permitted to speak to their friends in the reading room. A student shall be permitted to enter the library only on depositing his/ her identity card at the library counter. Library is open to students, members of the staff.Students can also have access to internet.

Clubs :-

To encourage the students of our college, our college is maintaining different clubs in all the faculties.

Physical Sciences Club
The faculties such as, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Electronics, Computer Science have clubs to engage the students in activities connected with the faculty.

Bio Sciences Club

As our college possesses good laboratory facilities, the bio sciences clubs are capable of achieving their goals such as Botanical Gardening, Gardening, Water Harvesting, Tissue Culture, Rain Water Harvesting etc.

Film Club

Our college has a film club which is working with an intention of showing some artistic, award winning good films and also educational films to the students. Our college has close contact with Sahyadri film society which is active in this regard for the past 25 years. The film club organizers bring the films pertaining to the texts prescribed by the university for the students studying in Kannada and English literature. Films on historic figures, on historic places, on great poets, dramatists are also shown. Last year this club had arranged two day film festival and showed 8 films for students.

Women Forum

As the women community makes a major share of the college activities, thinking that it is necessary to have a women forum, our college has established a women forum guided by experienced women teachers. The forum organize programs concerning the women problems. The forum counsels the women community and also look into the grievances of the girl students of the college.
