Employees' State Insurance Corporation (abbreviated as ESIC) is one of the two main statutory social security bodies under the ownership of Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, the other being the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation.   ESIC Hospitals are public hospitals that provide medical services to employees and their dependents who are covered under the Employees’ State Insurance Act of 1948.

The promulgation of Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Act, 1948 envisaged an integrated need-based Social Insurance Scheme that would protect the interest of workers in contingencies such as sickness, maternity, temporary or permanent physical disablement, injury and/or death during employment, resulting in loss of wages or earning capacity. The Act also guarantees comprehensive and reasonably good medical /health care to workers and their immediate dependents as one of the insurance related benefits.  

With the objective of improving the quality of medical care provision, need was felt to constantly improve the medical competencies of its human resource.  As a first step in realization of this vision, ESIC decided to set up ESI Post Graduate Institutes for Medical Sciences & Research (ESI-PGIMSR) at their hospitals at K.K.Nagar (Chennai)-Tamilnadu, Faridabad-Haryana, Gulburga-Karnataka, Bangalore-Karnataka, Kollam-Kerala, Sanath Nagar-Hyderabad, Joka-Kolkata, Andheri(E)-Mumbai, MGM-Parel- Mumbai, Basaidarapur-Delhi.

This initiative marks the beginning of its venture into the field of Medical Education with the setting up of Medical Colleges, Dental colleges and Nursing schools all over India, to follow.

ESIC Medical College & PGIMSR, KK Nagar, Chennai was established in 2013 under the State Government (inaugurated in 1971) on the backdrop of the prestigious ESI Corporation Hospital, KK Nagar, and has been serving the Insured Patients in Tamil Nadu ever since. The ESIC Hospitals in Chennai are managed by the Employees State Insurance Corporation, a statutory body established by the Indian government to provide social security and healthcare benefits to employees in the organized sector. The ESIC Hospitals in Chennai are funded by the contributions made by employers and employees, who are mandated to contribute a percentage of their salaries towards the ESIC fund.  After taking over of the Corporation Hospital by ESIC in 1991, continuous efforts were made to up-grade and modernize the facilities.  To further augment the quality of care for its insured persons, an ESI Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (PGIMSR) has been established from the academic year 2011-12 with the aim to provide postgraduate teaching and training in various disciplines. The institute has been converted into a Medical College and is also conducting MBBS course from the Academic Year 2013-14.

The Hospital is centrally situated in Chennai, at KK Nagar with easy accessibility and connectivity for its students, staff, faculty and patients.  Chennai, the capital of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is a major hub for healthcare services in the region. The city is home to several hospitals and healthcare centers, including the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospitals

Today, ESIC Hospital KK Nagar has become a 550 bedded Hospital having state-of-the-art medical infrastructure, modern high tech equipments along with highly trained medical manpower.

ESIC-PGIMSR, KK Nagar, Chennai is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University. The college is an ISO: 9001-2008 certified institution providing high quality,  and comprehensive health care services to the insured persons.  The ESIC Medical College & PGIMSR received full approval of the Medical Council of India (MNC). 

ESIC-PGIMSR, KK Nagar has an annual intake of 100 students, with 15% reserved for All India Quota, 20% for wards of Insured Patients and remaining 65% filled through the State Government Quota, which includes Economically Weaker Section Quota.   For Post Graduate Course 1) 50 % All India Quota 2) 50 % State Quota Eligibility (i) As per Medical Council of India Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2000.   Duration of course is 3 Years.  The emoluments shall be payable to all selected candidates as per the instructions issued by ESIC, Headquarters from time to time.

IMPORTANT: Please note that the candidates who have already done or are pursuing MD/MS in any subject at the time of counselling shall not be considered for admission to MD/MS Courses. If it is found at a later state that the candidates have given false information at the time of counseling, his/her candidature/registration will be cancelled.

• Enhancing the “social” dimension of care, by striving to provide super specialty treatment to insured persons by our own institutions.

• To constantly display sensitivity and respond to changing educational, social and community demands

• Candidates who have completed 10+2 level exam in PCB are eligible to apply for MBBS program.
• Candidate has to clear NEET examination for taking admission in the MBBS course.
• To be eligible for admission to the PG courses, the candidates must possess an MBBS degree. Admission to the same will be granted on the basis of NEET-PG. 
• Candidates should be 17-year of age at the time of admission or will attain the age by 31st December of that year.
• For admission in ESIC, they should clear the NEET exam UG and PG courses.

• Scholarship:
• National Merit Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to students who have scored a minimum of 75% in the NEET exam.
• State Merit Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to students who have scored a minimum of 75% in the NEET exam and are from the state of Karnataka.
• Economically Weaker Section Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to students who come from economically weaker sections of society.
• Physically Challenged Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to students with physical disabilities.
• Widow/Divorcee Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to students who are the sole breadwinners of their family and whose parents are either deceased or divorced.

Library

The built-in library area includes reading, stacking, browsing, a desk, and a circulation lounge which has a  capacity of 70 users, with the possibility of WiFi access at 10 Mbps speed. 

Sports

The Department of Physical education has been established in 1997. The Direction and the College provide the necessary infrastructure which helps the students not only to inculcate a good game habits but also to develop sportsmanship. To hone skills in their respective games and improve the physical condition of students and teachers, the college has outdoor gaming facilities namely: Cricket, Volleyball, Football, Badminton, Kho-Kho, Badminton, Kabaddi, and Basketball. Women chess, carriage, badminton, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, ball throwing, volleyball, The college has an indoor games section on an area of almost 600 square meters.m, with indoor games such as table tennis, carom, chess, etc.

Computer Lab

The active learning center with several computer terminals allows students to actively use the Internet.

Canteen

The Dining hall is clean, and spacious, and can meet the mealtime rush & Garden restaurant is ideal when a person wishes to relax and enjoy non-veg cuisine. Healthy and hygienic food is served at  Archana Tiffany's canteen. Small service counters are available in the college and the hospital areas.

Transport;

Transport FacilityA fleet of buses and vans are available to all the students commuting between colleges and the campus. Transport facility is provided to transport students to camps organized outside the campus.
