“Elli Bhurame Deva sannidhi Bayasi Bimmane Bandalo” (Where Goddess Nature has promptly manifested in quest of Abode) – writes Sri Panjamangeshwar Rao, well known Kannada poet that is often quoted to describe the beauty of Kodagu’s landscape, its people and their culture. Kodagu is known for natural beauty, which is still fresh and pristine. The glimpse of history of Kodagu with reference to culture and education will not be prolific and complete without listing the path of growth traced by erstwhile Government College, Madikeri.

Formal education either in vernacular medium or any other popular medium was not vogue in Kodagu district until the advent of the British in this region two centuries ago. Primary and secondary schooling began in a low key during that time but need for access to higher education in this region was not felt so keenly until the year 1941, when a proposal for starting a Second Grade College was placed at the general body meeting of the Coorg Education Fund. In the same year a Bill to this effect was moved before the Chief Commissioner in a session of Kodagu legislative Assembly. Though it was passed with majority, it was kept at abeyance by the government due to financial constraints.

In 1943, the matter once again was raised once again by the President, Coorg Education Fund, but in vain. There was a typical hindrance in getting affiliation from Madras University since it extended affiliation only to First Grade Colleges. So, the proposal for opening a Second Grade College was abandoned. In 1944, the School Education Officer was directed to draft a plan to open a First Grade College. The bill was passed in the session of the legislative Assembly and the Govt. Of India was urged to sanction an assistance of Rs. 5.00 lakhs. The government finally gave consent to open the college soon after the Second World War.

Admission Instructions

Original documents i.e. mark sheet of qualifying examination and certificate of matriculation exam will be returned to the candidates immediately after verification and the attested photocopy of the document will be kept by the university for record.
The candidate selected for admission must pay the required charges at the time of admission.
The candidate can pay fee through demand draft (in favor of Field Marshal KM Cariappa College - FMKMCC), net-banking, and cash.
On the reverse side of the Demand Draft, the candidate must write his/her name, admission form number and the name of the course he has applied for.

Gym
The college has Multigym multi-station gym equipment such as Weighted armbands, TRX bands, Weighted jump rope, weights, Dumbbells, kettlebell, balance ball, etc. The gym will be open from 7 am to 8.30 am in the morning and 3.45 to 6.30 pm in the evening. Separate time schedules are drawn for girls' students.

Library
The college library was established in the year 1949. It moved to an independent building in 1980. As a major source of an information provider, it occupies a total area of 1009.212 Sq.mts. The library has in its stock 56,926 volumes. The resources span all branches of Social science, Science and Technology, Commerce and Management, Languages, etc. giving vital support to teaching and learning. New titles are added periodically as per the demand in order to ensure that readers are provided with updated study materials. Reference books include encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, books on competitive exams, etc. Library subscribes to 43 periodicals, 38 subject journals, and several newspapers. The cyber center has been set up as annex in order to extend access to digital media and foster E-learning. The library caters to the requirements of Post Graduate courses and doctoral studies offered in the college. The library has Wi-Fi connectivity for free internet service to enable access to E-resources. More than 6000+ e-journals and 31,35000+ e-books can be accessed under the N-LIST digital library facility of INFLIBNET Service.

Sports
The college has a sprawling playground measuring 2,50,000 sqmts. It includes 400 mts Athletic track of good surface and a hockey pitch; various field games like cricket, football, handball can also be played. Besides, the college has separate playing arenas/courts for basketball, kabaddi, volleyball, throwball and ball badminton. The college auditorium is used for indoor games like shuttle badminton, table tennis, chess, and carom.

I.T Infrastructure
The college Computer lab which is equipped with 80 computers, all with genuine Windows 7 and above versions Operating system and software required for teaching undergraduate students. These computers are Internet-enabled and are available for students for their various computing needs.

Cafeteria
The College Canteen provides food and refreshments at reasonable rates. Care is taken by the monitoring committee to ensure that the food provided is healthy and hygienic. Students are advised to co-operate with the college authority in maintaining cleanliness and are also instructed against indulging in prohibited activities.

Laboratories
The college has a departmental based laboratory facility for the students.

Auditorium
The college has an auditorium facility for events and seminars.
Boys Hostel

Girls Hostel

Medical/Hospital
Medical Aid Cell arranges first aid in case of emergencies. Medical checkup camps and blood donation camps are organized by NSS and NCC wings of the college.
