G.S.V.M. Medical College,Kanpur, known for its academic excellence world over , is named after Late Shri Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi, a great freedom fighter ,who lost his life at the altar of the communal frenzy in Kanpur in March 1931. This was the first medical college of U.P. established in independent India, forming a landmark in the annals of medical education in the state of U.P. It is one of the five medical colleges in India established under the second five year plan. This college came into existence in November 1955 and its foundation stone was laid down by Hon’ble Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, on April 24, 1956. Late Dr. S.N. Mathur was the first Principal of this college.

Admission Criteria

UG Admission

Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Medical College (GSVM Medical College) offers MBBS in three categories: Preclinical, Paraclinical, and Clinical. Each category has multiple specialisations with an overall intake of 250 students. Applicants who have qualified NEET UG are eligible for admission.

MBBS Eligibility Criteria

The candidates who want to apply for MBBS at GSVM Medical College must fulfil the eligibility criteria as given below:

• Candidates must have passed 10 + 2 from a recognised board with a minimum of 50% marks in the qualifying examination.
  
• Students under the reserved category are eligible for admission with 45% marks in 10+2.
  
• The candidate must be 17 years of age at the time of admission.

PG Admission

GSVM Medical College Admission to MD, MS, and PG Diploma programs is offered for three years. Candidates who have completed MBBS and rotatory internships are eligible to apply for admission into MS/ MD/ PG Diploma courses. Applicants can get admission based on NEET PG results.

PG Eligibility Criteria

• The eligibility criteria for the PG course include completion of an MBBS degree with a minimum score of 55% marks for the unreserved category and 45% marks for the reserved category.
  
• Students must also have completed a one-year rotational internship at an institution or university recognised by the National Medical Council (NMC).
