GM University (GMU), commonly known as GMU Davanagere, is a private university located in Davanagere, Karnataka. Established in 2021 under the Karnataka State Act, the university has evolved from the legacy of GM Institute of Technology (established in 2001) under the GM Group of Institutions. The institution was founded with the vision of providing quality higher education to all sections of society and aims to become a globally recognized center for academic excellence and innovation.

GM University is situated on P.B. Road (Poona–Bangalore Highway), Davanagere – 577006, Karnataka. The campus spans approximately 57 acres in a green and serene environment, located near the District Commissioner’s office. It is around 4 km from the city center and well connected by road, rail, and public transport, making it easily accessible for students.

GM University is established by the Government of Karnataka under State Act No. 19 of 2023 and is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). It operates as a private university offering its own degrees. The institution also builds on the academic credibility of its constituent colleges, which have approvals such as AICTE and accreditations like NAAC/NBA (through legacy institutions).

Admission Procedure

GMU Courses are offered at UG, PG, Doctorate level. There are 78 courses offered at GMU. The courses are offered disciplines like Engineering, Management, Law, Science. GMU courses includes BE, MBA, B.Sc, M.Tech, B.Tech, B.Com + L.L.B {Hons., BBALLB, , M.Com, International MBA. Popular courses at GMIT are BE, MBA, B.Sc.

Admission Criteria

UG Admission Process

• GMU offers B.Tech in six specializations and a Diploma course in Engineering. Admissions to B.Tech are conducted on merit/rank scored in Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) or COMEDK counselling for which candidates have to appear for UGET conducted by the competent authority.
• KEA conducts counselling for admissions in both offline and online mode. Candidates need to register and get their documents verified at the designated Helpline
• Centers (the details of which will be provided on the official website) within the stipulated time period.
  
• COMEDK scores/ranks are announced after which a centralized counselling process is conducted for admissions in participating institutions.
  
• Candidates need to register for counselling followed by choice filling, seat locking, mock allotment, seat allotment, verification of documents and issue of allotment letter.
  
• In the case of a Diploma course in Engineering, the minimum eligibility is S.S.L.C./S.S.C. or pass in any other equivalent examination recognized by Karnataka Secondary Board, Bangalore.

PG Admission Process

• Admissions are conducted under government and management quota. For government seats candidates can apply on the basis of PGET conducted by KEA.
  
• As per PGCET guidelines, candidates claiming admissions into the postgraduate program must obtain eligibility approval from the Karnataka Government / VTU / other respective university.
  

Scholarship

Students are hereby informed to apply for various scholarships offered by Government of Karnataka and Government of India (GOI) National Scholarship/AICTE and other funded scholarships based on their eligibility criteria.

1. Guidelines to apply for SSP scholarship (Sponsored by Karnataka state government)

• Students can apply by logging to ssp.postmatric.karnataka.gov.in.
  
• The data such as Name, date of birth and Parent's name should be correct as per the Aadhar card.
  
• The students should have valid Income Certificate in the name of the student by mentioning the total family income.
  
• Student's Bank Account must be seeded to Aadhar card (Through NPCI mapping)
  
• Minority students have to apply first in National scholarship and get NSP ID before applying in SSP.
  
• Students admitted directly and who is not having counselling number will be treated as management quota.
  
• The students who have applied last year they can renew the same by logging to SSP portal by furnishing the required data without fail in order to receive the scholarship this year.

• Academic Requirement: Minimum 50% marks in the last exam.

To achieve this vision, we have established the Career Advice and Student Placement (CASP) division — a dynamic unit dedicated to guiding our students through every stage of their career journey.

Career counselling helps students discover their true potential and interest in various subjects in order to help them choose the right career. Career counselling is the assistance provided to a student to achieve goals. The advice and counselling provided is based on - personality, ability and curiosity. The counsellor is trained in administering tests that determine the aptitude and skills of a student, personality traits and subjects of interest. There is a face-to-face interview with a career guidance counsellor. The interview provides the student with the opportunity to clear any doubts or queries student may have regarding career options and educational courses. It also allows the counsellor to further judge the aptitude of the student, thus building on the preliminary results of the written tests.

An entrepreneurship cell is an organisation that provides support and guidance to the aspiring entrepreneurs to help them turn their ideas into successful businesses. These cells are usually found in academic institutions, including colleges and universities, where they work to promote an entrepreneurial culture and provide resources and opportunities to the students and faculty members who are interested in starting their own ventures.

Physical Education is an integral part of educational program. Regular physical education classes prepare sports to be physically and mentally active, fit, and healthy into adulthood through participation in various sports activities/competitions; children are exposed to the opportunities in sports. They can make their career in sports.The GMIT Health center is facilitate with 12 beds with two visiting doctors, the Dr.Santosh C S and Dr.Annapoorna atti visiting the health Centre daily at 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm, the Health center providing basic health care facilities to students and employees those who staying in Hostels and campus.

Our hostels are professionally managed, well supervised, and equipped with modern amenities to provide a comfortable and enriching campus living experience. Along with my dedicated team of wardens, supervisors, and hostel committees, we strive to maintain the highest standards of food quality, cleanliness, and student support.

Transport

A fully fledged transport fleet is provided for use by the students of GMIT. The buses pick and drop students from various locations in Davanagere and Harihar. A safe and timely service is the motto of the transport team at GMIT. The transport team consists of experienced drivers, skilled maintenance staff and a Transport Head to ensure smooth operations.

We have operating 20 buses during the academic year 2023-24. Which covers 16 routes of the city Davanagere and Harihar. About 3000 Students have been using the benifits. 16 buses with 50 seating capacity each for students and 4 buses with 45 seating capacity each are provided from across the city. (7 Tata Macro polo, 2 Ashok Leyland and 8 Swaraj Mazad, 3 Eicher).
