About Us

The Gokhale Institute Of Politics And Economics, Pune, was established in 1930 by the Servants of India Society. It is the oldest research and training institute in Economics in the country. It is dedicated to research into the socio-economic dimensions of Indian society and carries forward the legacy of Gopal Krishna Gokhale. Gokhale was the one who founded the Servants of India Society in 1905. His rationale was to promote education, and develop capabilities among Indians to govern a newly independent nation. Over the decades, the Institute has established strong credentials in empirical and analytical research. The Institute is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, and the Bombay Public Trusts Act, 1950. In recognition of its contribution to higher learning and research in Economics, the Institute was awarded the status of institution Deemed to be a University, in 1993.

Mission
The Gokhale Institute Of Politics And Economics will strive to undertake research and provide education in all fields of economics with the singular purpose of contributing its might to enhance economic betterment and social welfare.

Candidates are required to appear for an entrance test for admissions B.Sc, MA, M.Sc and Ph.D courses. Candidates who qualify the entrance exam will then be called for an interview. Also, candidates who have obtained M.Phil Degree of a recognised university through regular and not distance mode and who have qualified at the UGC-NET (including JRF)/ SLET Teacher Fellowship holders will be exempted from institute’s entrance test though they still have to appear for interview.

How to apply?

The mode of application for admissions is online except for Ph.D courses. Below are the steps to be followed for application process:

Visit the official website and click on the link given for an online application to apply.
Register and login using login credentials.
Fill in all the details in the application form.
Upload all the documents in the prescribed format.
Pay the application for fee in online mode.
Take a print out of the same for future reference.

Documents required at the time of Admission: Candidates have to produce the self-attested copies of documents at the time of application:

Class X & XII Pass Certificate & Mark sheet
Degree Certificates (Provisional acceptable)
College Leaving Certificate/ Migration certificate
Income certificate for candidates belonging to OBC category
Code of Conduct Certificate from the institute last attended
Caste Certificate issued by competent authority for candidates belonging to reserved candidates.
Domicile Certificate issued by competent authority for candidates hailing from Jammu & Kashmir
Disability Certificate issued by competent authority for Physically Handicapped candidates

Placement – Process
The on-campus placement process at GIPE is professionally organized and provides recruiting organization with a platform to recruit students for Internship as well as regular employment.

The process which has evolved over the years with inputs from the placement cell, the recruiting organizations and the students, seeks to optimize the interests of all stakeholders in the placement process.

The academic ethos at GIPE provides various forums to prospective recruiters to associate with the Institute and its students. During the course of the academic year, the Institute organizes various student-led co-curricular activities. GIPE encourages recruiting organizations to collaborate through sponsorship, co-sponsorship of events such as seminars/ workshops/conferences/invited lectures, etc. and develop closer rapport with faculty and students.

Infrastructure
This campus at the Institute is comprised of modern and ancient structures spread across a vast grassy area. The hill behind the university is where Gokhale to swear and take three additional oaths to Servants of the Indian Society - in the areas of destitution, compliance and obligation for the national. The construction of the tower has created a symbol.

The classroom can be a wonderful setting for students to pursue certain goals.

The lab is multi-functional technology and work space. The lab is used for faculty and undergraduates' teaching as well as learning and research needs. In particular, over 40 computers are accessible in use in the Research Commons.

In a library that was three stories that was built in 2003, there were 2.80 lakh volumes of books and journals

The Institute is equipped with a conference hall that has the potential to accommodate 70 persons and the latest amenities. There's also a designated meeting room with 20 seats. Additionally, the Kale Hall Auditorium accessible, having 300 seats to accommodate large events and seminars.

The hostel can be found in three locations: one for males , and two for females. The hostels are situated on a residential site. Students at present are in dorms with appropriate accommodation.

Guesthouses, dormitories, and health facilities are also located on campus. Hostels. A, B, C, D, E, F, and G are in conjunction with all staff quarters, academic or not.

The Residential Campus Institute features a beautiful guesthouse (12 rooms). The Guesthouse is reserved to the Administration and the UGC as well as those attending the various symposiums organized at the institute/dept.
