Government Engineering College Challakere (GECC)
Government Engineering College Challakere, a prestigious public college, was established in 2021 under the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education, Karnataka with the objective of providing quality technical education to rural students. The Government Engineering College has evolved into an Institution of Excellence in teaching students to meet Industrial needs, Consultation services to society and Training Programs through eminent faculty.
The spacious and well-planned campus of GECC, situated in 15 acres of land, provides a serene and conducive environment for learning and growth. The campus is located on Bellary Road, Challakere, Chitradurga-577536, Karnataka, India. The famous town of Challakere is said to be the future Science City (Now "Oil City") of Karnataka. Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has a second campus at Kudapura near this town. The institution would soon be surrounded by other eminent institutions of strategic importance like Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
Government Engineering College, Challakere is Approved by AICTE, New Delhi and is Affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU).
At present GECC offers UG programs in the field of Engineering with an intake of 60 seats per course. This is the only Government Engineering College in Karnataka offering advanced course like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. All courses are approved by AICTE. Admissions to the college are made through Common Entrance Test (CET), conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), Bengaluru. Candidates must have appeared in JEE Main and obtained a valid score.
The infrastructure provided by the institute is at par with AICTE norms. There are four Seminar Halls with projectors, modern Classrooms, Laboratories, Library, Computer Center, Auditorium, separate Boys & Girls Hostels, Sports facilities, Canteen. The college also encourages students to take up non-academic activities like Red Cross, NSS, Student Newspaper, Sports, Culturals, etc.
