Government Engineering College, Hassan (GECH) started in the year 2007 by The Government of Karnataka under Department of Technical Education.  It has established 10 engineering colleges during the academic  year 2007-08 with an objective "To Reach the Unreached".  GECH, inspite of having a rough start, is slowly evolving to become one of the elite technical institutes providing quality technical education. The Students are admitted to college only through CET with very normal tuition fee.  Most of students admitted are from economically weak background. They get either fee reimbursement by Government of Karnataka or scholarships from various Social Welfare Departments.

Government Engineering College, Hassan campus consisting of a huge building with planned utilities has come up in 40 acres of land.  The college is located opposite Dairy Circle, BM Road, Hassan, Karnataka.  The nearest Airport is Mysuru Domestic Airport which is128 kms away from the campus. The Hassan Railway Station is just 1 km away from the college.This Government Engineering College is affiliated with the Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum and approved by AICTE, New Delhi.

GECH offers undergraduate Bachelor of Engineering B.E and postgraduate MTech courses.  For the UG curriculum, admission to the BE is done through the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority.  For the PG curriculum, admission to M.Tech is through the Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET) conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority.

The GEC Hassan provides excellent Facilities which include Library, well equipped department-wise Lab facilities, State-of-the-art Network of Computers, Internet facility under the National Mission of Education scheme of Government of India, Medical facilities, Sports & Games facilities and various other facilities to its students.  The college has a dedicated team of highly experienced and adequately qualified Faculty belonging to Science and Engineering departments of the Institute who are engaged in Teaching, Research and Industrial Consultancy.

Training and Placement Cell of Government Engineering College, Hassan handles all the Placement Related activities on the campus. It helps the undergraduate students to avail various placement opportunities by organizing Intensive Placement Oriented Training to make the students habitual to the expectations of multiple Industries. The Placement Cell also provides Training in Communication Skills, Aptitude Skills, Group Discussion Skills, Technical Interview Skills and Computer Programming Skills of the students. GECH has  excellent Infrastructure to support the Placement process on the campus such as Communication Skill Training Laboratories, Auditorium, Seminar Halls and Online Examination Centre.

MHRD Scholarship

Scholarships are provided by the organization of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education to help the people overcome poverty and continue their education without worrying about the lack of financial funds.

SDM Scholarship

Sujnana Nidhi scholarship is conducted by Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) for the young wards of SHG group members. A total of 8,000 scholarships are distributed to needy children who are domiciles of Karnataka under the Sujnana Nidhi scholarship. The benefits of the scholarship scheme can be availed by the students pursuing their technical training programmes.

Jindal Scholarship

The Jindal scholarship is a merit-cum-means scholarship provided by the Sitaram Jindal Foundation. The program offers financial aid to underprivileged students aspiring to study higher. Therefore, those studying classes 11, 12, ITI, Diploma, Bachelor's, and Masters level can apply to the Sitaram Jindal foundation scholarship scheme 2022. The foundation has not set a Sitaram Jindal foundation scholarship last date as the online applications are open throughout the year. The selected candidates will receive up to INR 3,200 every month.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has produced larger volumes of information, new ways of packaging information, and new tools for managing information to meet the changing demands of the user community. In view of the complex information needs of the society, the library and information centre have to play a greater role in building, developing, and disseminating information The Govt. Engineering College Library acts as a central knowledge centre for students and faculty of the college and the collection of this knowledge center comprise of documents in engineering subjects (Civil, E&C, Mechanical and CS & E). Efforts are ongoing to provide computerized library services by skilled Information professionals and systematic organization of documents are the major functions of the library.

Physical Education is a learning process that focuses on knowledge, attitudes and behaviors that are imperative for students to embrace a lifestyle of health and fitness.
