The Government Engineering College, Idukki (GECI) is located in the beautiful high range district of Kerala known for its mountainous hills and dense forests. The location of the institute in the idyllic environment makes it perfect for academic pursuit. The education system followed in the college enables the students to achieve academic success as well as develop interpersonal skills. Each student is assigned to a staff advisor from the concerned department who guides the students in curricular and extracurricular activities during the period of study in the college. The college has a very active student’s union whose principal objective is to develop leadership qualities, integrity and inculcate the spirit of service among the students. The members are responsible for organising sports, arts, cultural and edutainment events.

GEC Idukki Admission Process
Government Engineering College, Idukki offers admissions to UG and PG courses. GEC Idukki admissions are offered to five B.Tech programmes and four M.Tech programmes. Admissions to GEC Idukki courses are based on the merit of the entrance exam. GEC Idukki admission to B.Tech is done on the basis of their performance in the entrance exam- KEAM and participation in the counselling process. GEC Idukki admission to M.Tech is offered to candidates who have a valid score in the entrance exam- GATE followed by the counselling process. Final admissions at GEC Idukki are offered after the verification of documents and course fee payment. Mentioned below are the GEC Idukki admission procedure to several B.Tech and M.Tech courses.

GEC Idukki Admissions- UG
Government Engineering College, Idukki offer admission to various B.Tech programmes. The B.Tech programmes are offers in different branches such as Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering. The course duration of the B.Tech programme is 4 years. The eligibility criteria for GEC Idukki B.Tech admission is that the candidates should have passed the 10+2 exam with at least 45% marks

Placement 

The Government Engineering College, Idukki has a very active Career Guidance & Placement Cell (CGPC). By keeping in contact with reputable companies the GEC Idukki placement cell plays a critical role in locating job opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate passing students from the college. GEC Idukki placement cell operates round the year to facilitate contacts between companies and graduates.  Many companies visit the college on an invitation to conduct interviews.

Scholarship

Government Engineering College, Idukki offers many scholarships to its students based on their performance in academics. Similarly, The Government of Kerala also introduced various scholarships to meritorious students belonging to socially and economically backward categories. For these scholarships, GEC Idukki students have to meet the eligibility requirements. The first step to get these scholarships is that the candidates have to apply. To avail of those scholarships, GEC Idukki students have to fulfill the eligibility criteria like performance in academics, annual income of parents, categories etc. The scholarships for GEC Idukki students are Central Sector Scholarship, Merit Scholarship to the Children of School Teachers, Muslim Nadar Girls Scholarship, Muslim Girls Scholarship, Suvarna Jubilee Merit Scholarship, State Merit Scholarship, District Merit Scholarship, Merit Cum Means Scholarship and Meana Scholarship. The amount Meana scholarship is that the meritorious candidate will get a scholarship of $150 per year for the next four years, or until the course is completed. GEC Idukki students can also avail sports scholarship from MG University and this scholarship is awarded to selected students for their outstanding performance in games and sports. In Fisheries grant, the Fisheries Development Department provides educational assistance to children of registered fishermen. For this scholarship, candidates have to fill the application form available only from the Fisheries office. Further candidates have to submit some documents like attested copies of SSLC, 10+2 certificate, income certificate, caste certificate. Mentioned below are the scholarships for GEC Idukki students. 

Boys Hostel
GEC Idukki facilities and infrastructure includes hostel facilities for boys. The boys’ hostels have well-furnished and spacious rooms. The boys’ hostel rooms are equipped with facilities like a study table, chairs, cupboard, beds etc. The Men’s hostel- I, The Men’s hostel- II (near SBT) are the boys’ hostels there in the college. Hostels’ are headed by wardens.

Girls Hostel
GEC Idukki facilities include a girls' hostel. The rooms at the girls' hostels are well-furnished and large. The girls' hostel rooms have amenities such as a study table, chairs, a closet, and beds. The girls' hostels at GEC Idukki accommodate 300 students. Wardens are in charge of the hostels.

Library
Government Engineering College, Idukki has a well-equipped library on the campus for students and staff. The library has a collection of over 3100 titles and around 12000 books. GEC Idukki library also has 36 national journals, 36 international journals, 5 newspapers, and 9 magazines on its subscription list. It also belongs to the Indest Consortium, which subscribes to all IEEE e-journals. SOUL software is used to automate library procedures. On all working days, the library is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The sections of the college library are as follows: book lending section, a reference section, current periodicals section, book bank for SC/ST and financially backward students, reading room, reprographic section and digital library section.

Infrastructure
GECI has a 2 Mbps Internet connection and ten additional 512 Mbps connections. Campus Area Network (CAN) and Wireless Area Network (WAN) provide internet access to students.

Cafeteria
GEC Idukki facilities and infrastructure includes a well-maintained canteen on the college campus. In the college, there is a large canteen that was built with the help of the College Development Fund. The canteen provides tasty and healthy meals to students and faculty members at a reasonable price.

Auditorium
GEC Idukki facilities and infrastructure includes an auditorium with all basic amenities. It has a large seating capacity and is properly ventilated. The auditorium is built keeping in view the modern requirements. It also provides the ideal setting for presentations and meetings, as well as conducting numerous workshops, conferences and other academic programmes such as seminars, workshops, symposiums and guest lectures. The auditorium is spacious enough to handle large gatherings for important occasions. The purpose of the auditoriums is to enhance the quality of education. The auditorium includes LCD projectors, screens, and whiteboards for delivering lectures to make this possible. Both auditoriums are well-appointed, air-conditioned, and equipped with modern projection and audio systems as well as internet connectivity

Wifi
Government Engineering College, Idukki is a Wi-Fi enabled campus. The college has Wi-Fi access for students and staff members on the campus.

Laboratories
GEC Idukki facilities include well-equipped departmental based laboratories for students on the campus premises. The college has a language lab and it can accommodate a maximum of ten students, and the software allows instructors to allocate lessons in batches/classes/sessions/students based on their needs.

Transport

The transport facility is available to students, faculty and staff residing in or around the college campus.
