Government Engineering College, KR Pet is one of the 10 colleges that was established in the year 2007 by the Government of Karnataka under Department of Technical Education (DTE) in K.R Pet Mandal in Mandhya district of Karnataka. 

The campus of GEC, KR Pet is located on 10 acres of vast land on State Highway 7 (near the crossing of SH-7 and SH-85 in KR Pet), Nearby TB Circle, Mysore - Channarayapatna Road,  Krishnarajpet, Mandya, Karnataka.  The nearest landmark of the campus is laxmi Narayan temple. The campus is just 1-2 km away from the Bus depot.

Government Engineering College, KR Pet comes under the Administration of the Director of Technical Education, Bangalore. The college is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi.  It is recognised by the AICTE, New Delhi. 

GEC KR Pet offers undergraduate program BE Degree in four disciplines - Computer Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering with an Intake of 60 students for each branch as per the VTU guidelines. The college also offers PhD program.  All admissions to the college are made through Common Entance Test (CET) conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), Bengaluru.

The modern GEC KR Pet campus is equipped with facilities like Computer Lab, Library, Hostel, Sports & Fitness and Cultural facilities coupled with experienced faculty, fostering an ideal environment for academic achievement and research. The institution plays a pivotal role in advancing technical education, fostering innovation, and contributing to the growth and development of the engineering sector in the region.

The institute has a full-fledged T&P department with all facilities for Presentation, Aptitude Tests, Group discussions & Interviews. With a mission to succeed, Training & Placement Department of GEC KR Pet under the guidance of a T&P Officer, provides opportunities to the student by arranging Campus Interviews and also keeps in touch with various companies for imparting industrial training which helps students to get real life learning experience.  T&P department conducts various lectures on career development, personality development, resume writing, group discussions and interview techniques and provide other inputs to make our students better employable. All departments and their placement coordinators are involved in the process of Training & Placement activities.

Government Engineering College, K R Pet has taken initiative to establish National Innovations and Start-up Policy (NISP) in the Institution from 2019. In this regards committee has been formed and various activities are planned and ongoing for the effective implementation of the policy.  Objectives of NISP are:

To create Innovation Pipeline and Pathways for Entrepreneurs.

To Incentivize Faculty & Students for Entrepreneurship.

To provide Incubation & Pre-Incubation support.

To collaborate and Co-create the Business Relationship and Knowledge Exchange.

The college also encourages Student Activities like NSS, CCTEK Center for Continuing Technical Education in Karnataka (CCTEK), Red Cross, IEEE Student Chapter, etc.

BE (All Branches)                    10+2(PCM)   with CET                    10+3(for Lateral Entry via Diploma)

Admission Procedure: Admissions to GEC K R Pet are as per the regulations of Karnataka State Govt.

The students have to appear for CET conducted by KEA(Govt. of Karnataka)

About Library

The library subscribed the e-resources mandated by AICTE i.e., IEL Online, ASCE, EBSCO, ELSEVIER (Engineering and Computer Science), J-Gate Engineering & Technology (JET), and Springer. These e-resources can be accesses across the campus 24/7. The library has membership with reputed libraries in Bangalore, like British Library, NAL Library, IIMB Library and CMTI LIbrary by which our students and faculty can avail the reference services offered by the above Libraries.

The seating capacity of the Library is 50 users at a time, which also includes Reading Halls of a capacity of 50 users. The library is computerised with WEB - enabled open source software NewGenLib. The on-line public access catalog can be accessed across the campus through OPAC which facilitates to search the books by author, title.
