It was originally established in 1992 as the Institute of Road Transport (IRT) Perundurai Medical College. The college was founded by the Institute of Road Transport, a body under the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, with the primary aim of providing quality medical education, particularly to the children of transport employees.
