Government Institute of Medical Sciences, also known as GIMS, is an autonomous, government-run medical institution that is affiliated with Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, Uttar Pradesh. The institution is approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC). The campus stretches over 56 acres, provided by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, and is located within the Gautama Buddha University campus. It is the only institution in Uttar Pradesh with NABH & NABL accreditations from QCI. GIMS has ranked 112th out of 660 in India, in the Medical stream by Collegedunia.com in 2025.

The institution provides admission to various kinds of courses under both UG and PG programs and Doctorate level. Admissions are open now. There are 22 courses offered at the institution. The flagship courses offered at this institution are B.Sc (Nursing), and MBBS. In case of B.Sc (Nursing), the candidate has to obtain the same in 10+2 with CNET scores. Admission Procedure

GIMS Courses are offered at UG, PG, Doctorate level. There are 22 courses offered at GIMS. The courses are offered disciplines like Paramedical, Medical. GIMS courses includes B.Sc (Nursing), MBBS, M.D, BMLT, M.S, BMRIT, BOTT, M.Sc. Popular courses at GIMS are B.Sc (Nursing), MBBS, M.D.

Admission criteria

MBBS Admission

At GIMS, Greater Noida, MBBS is also offered as a flagship program by the college. It is a full-time undergraduate course with a duration of 4.5 years and a 1-year mandatory internship at the end of the course. Candidates will have to appear for NEET-UG to get admission. This will be followed by counselling. The program is approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

PG Admissions

Candidates are provided with MD/MS at the PG level. There are 9 specializations under this program. Students are required to complete MBBS with a minimum of 50% marks. Candidates will have to appear in the NEET PG exam, which will be followed by UP State Counseling if they are selected.

Diploma Admissions

GIMS provides its students with diplomas, too. There are 2 courses at diploma level, one in Lab Technician and the other in Radiology Technician. The general eligibility criteria require the candidates to pass the Class 12 exam with a minimum of 35% in PCB subjects. The selection is based on UP State Medical Faculty Counseling.

After the academic phase of MBBS, students undergo the mandatory internship in the attached hospital, gaining clinical, surgical and community medicine exposure. While traditional “placements” for MBBS are less relevant, the institute supports graduates for PG/clinical postings and government service. Stipends and state-service bond conditions apply in some cases.

Students are eligible for various scholarships: state government schemes (for SC/ST/OBC/EWS), merit-based awards, and institute supported financial aid. The institute’s website mentions government post-matric scholarships and merit-cum-means.
