Government Law College, Coimbatore - The City of Coimbatore, known as the Manchester of south India, had numerous educational institutions except a law college till the year 1979. The name of GLCC is etched in Golden Letters in the history of Legal Education in Tamil Nadu. Since 1979, this institution has been producing legal luminaries who have adored chairs of great responsibilities throughout the globe.The College works on a mission with a vision of futurist approach. The Govt. Law College, Coimbatore is affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai from the academic year 1997-1998 and functions as per the rules and regulations of the All India Bar Council and is of international standards. Prof.Dr.K.S.Gopalakrishnan M.A., M.L., Ph.D., is the current Principal of the Institution.

Government Law College, Coimbatore located at GEE DEE Hopt. Buildings, Avinashi Road, Coimbatore-641 014, commenced to function from August 1979. Later in January 1980, it was shifted to 9-B, Race Course Road, Coimbatore-18 and it functioned there till January 1991. Presently the College is housed in its own campus at Maruthamalai, adjacent to the Bharathiar University. The present campus has a total area of 20.12 acres. Built in lush green mountainous, airy, clean and calm atmosphere at the foot hills of the Western Ghats, the campus is ideally suitable for one who wants to pursue legal education.

Government Law College, Coimbatore has 2 Undergraduate Programmes and 2 Post Graduate Programmes. The Undergraduate Programmes are a 5-Year B.A, LL.B and a 3-Year LL.B Programme. The Postgraduate Programmes are a 2-Year LL.M (Business Law) and a 2-Year LL.M (Taxation Laws)Eligibility for the Undergraduate 5 Year B.A., LL.B Course allows candidates who have passed the qualifying examination under 10+2 pattern with not less than 45% of marks which is recognized by the syndicate as equivalent to Higher Secondary Examination of the Government of Tamil Nadu, are eligible for admission. For S.C./S.T. candidates concession of 5% marks in the minimum of marks required for admission for B.L. 5 year Degree Course of study as prescribed in the regulations will be given.

Eligibility for the Undergraduate 3 Year LL.B Course is allowed for candidates who have passed a Three year Degree Examination of Universities in Tamil Nadu and Such degree awarded by Member Universities of Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi for purpose of mutual recognition on reciprocal basis, after 10+2+3+ or 11+1+3 pattern and also recognized by Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University alone are eligible for admission to B.L. (3 years) Degree Course.

Eligibility for the Postgraduate, LL.M Course is eligible for candidate who has passed the B.L. Degree Examination and has secured not less than 50% of the aggregate marks in all the Three Years of the Three Year B.L. Degree Course or in all Five Years of the Five Year B.L. Degree Course together, as the case may be, shall be eligible to apply for the M.L. Degree Course. However a relaxation of 5% is given to the candidates belong in to SC/ST communities.

The College has good Infrastructure and Facilities. The present campus has a total area of 20.12 acres, build in lush green mountainous, airy, clean and calm atmosphere at the foot hills of the Western Ghats. The campus is ideally suitable for one who wants to pursue legal education. Two separate Hostels for men & women students have also been constructed within college campus. The residential quarter for the Deputy Warden of men’s hostel has been provided inside the campus by the Government since 2004. With a view of improving the quality, the campus encompasses a newly constructed classrooms, hi tech library which can accommodate over 2000 readers, a model court, air conditioned auditorium housing 1000 students/audience, CCTV Circuiting covering the entire campus, bio metric facilities, Wi-Fi facilities. The College also offers a Moot Court with various competitions, it also has Cultural and Competition Committee, facilities for Sports and Games, YRC and NSS.

Here's an overview of the courses, eligibility criteria, and admission process.Admission to 3 Year (LL.B ) / 5 Year (LL.M.) Degree Course is based on Academic Merit through counseling.The B.A. LL.B., candidates must have completed their 10+2 education with at least 45% marks (40% for SC/ST candidates). The LL.B. program requires applicants to hold a bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for SC/ST candidates). For the LL.M., candidates should possess either a 3-year LL.B. or a 5-year integrated LL.B. degree with an aggregate of 50% marks (45% for SC/ST candidates).

Admission Process

• Candidates need to apply through the official website of The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University (TNDALU), as admissions are centralized.
• Admissions are primarily based on merit, considering the marks obtained in the qualifying LL.B. examination.
• Shortlisted candidates may be called for a counseling session conducted by TNDALU, where they can select their preferred specialization based on availability and merit rank.

Eligibility

• Candidates must have completed either a 3-year LL.B. degree or a 5-year integrated LL.B. degree from a recognized university.
• A minimum aggregate of 50% marks is required in the qualifying LL.B. degree. However, candidates belonging to SC/ST categories are eligible with a minimum of 45% aggregate marks.

Scholarship

From 1977 – 78 onwards all kinds of scholarships (viz. residential and non-residential) relating to post matric studies shall be sanctioned subject to 90% attendance by the students who seek and are eligible for the benefit.Additionally, the college offers various scholarships to support meritorious and economically disadvantaged students pursuing legal education. These scholarships are awarded based on academic merit, financial need, and, in some cases, category-based eligibility.
