As Dharmapuri is a historically privilege district, the establishment of Government law college adds more privilege to the district. Dharmapuri is a district in north-western part of Tamil Nadu in South India. It is the first district bifurcated in Tamil Nadu after the independence of India by splitting it from the then, Salem district on 02 October, 1965. The other major towns in the district are Harur, Palacode, Karimangalam, Pennagaram and Pappireddipatti. Dharmapuri District is one of the major producers of mango in the state, fine quality granite is found in the district. It is also one of the main sericulture belts in the State. Around 30 percent of the district’s area is under forest cover. Cauvery River enters Tamil Nadu through this district as a scintillating waterfalls and the gushing beauty of cascade is called as ‘Hogenakkal’ is often quoted as “Niagra of India”.

The Government Law College, located in Dharmapuri, is affiliated to “The Tamilnadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University Chennai”, run by the Government of Tamilnadu is an institution of legal education. It is the only Law College established in the North-western part of Tamilnadu, out of the proposed three law colleges, as per G.O. No. 230 of 2017 dated 25.05.2017. Law (Legal Education) Department, on the recommendations of the Director of Legal studies, Chennai, Prof.(Dr.) N.S.Santhosh Kumar, M.Com., M.A., M.L., Ph.D.,.Mr. P. Sivathas of Coimbatore Government Law College was deputed as Special Officer for establishing the law college at Dharmapuri.

The objective of the college is to run a Five Year Integrated Professional Law Course B.A.LL.B., and Three Year Law Course LL.B., to serve as an institution with advanced legal studies. Presently, the college is housed in its temporary campus near Dharmapuri Bus Stand and the permanent campus under construction is at Baizuhalli Village, Karimanglam. It has a total area of 7.75 acres including a separate land for hostel. By situated in an aesthetic location of Dharmapuri the college serves the educational needs of the students who are passion towards law. The district enjoys a diversified economic base. Currently, the district consists of one Government Medical college, a Government Engineering college and ample number of Government polytechnics. The student body is culturally diverse with a population.

The historic icon of Dharmapuri (ancient name Thagadoor) is Adhiyamaan, the ancient Chieftain of Thagadoor, who presents a unique fruit Amla (Nellikkani) to the famous ancient Tamil Poetess, Avvaiyar to enhance her longevity in turn to enrich the Tamil Language. The College Logo portrays, “justice, equality and unbiasedness” through the word from the 118th Thrukkural embossed at the bottom in Tamil, “Saman Seithu Seer Thookkum Kol”.

PLACEMENTS :

60% marks are required to sit in the placements. The salary is offered according to the skills and performance of the students. Various MNCs visit the campus to hire students for the posts of legal advisor and legal officer.
