Government Medical College Ongole, also known as GMC Ongole, is a government-run medical institution located in Ongole city in the Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh. The college was established in the year 2008 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. It was formerly known as Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences Ongole. Being a public medical college, it operates under the Andhra Pradesh Medical Education and Research framework. The college is managed by the state government and does not belong to any private trust. Its main goal is to provide quality medical education and healthcare services to the underserved regions of Andhra Pradesh.

To gain admission to Government Medical College, Ongole (formerly RIMS Ongole), you must appear for and qualify in the NEET UG entrance examination, as seats are allocated based on NEET scores, category, and availability during the state counselling process via the Dr. N.T.R University of Health Sciences  portal.

Admission Process

• Admission is based on the NEET UG exam result. 

• The counselling is done by the state authority (Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences) under AP quotas: State Quota (around 85% seats) and All India Quota (15%) where applicable. 

• Eligibility criteria include passing 10+2 (Intermediate) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology (or Biotechnology) and English. Minimum marks required are generally 50% in PCB for general category; lower for reserved categories. 

• Candidate must have completed 17 years of age by a specified date (usually by 31st December of the admission year).

Eligiblity

• Must have passed 10+2 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology (or Biotechnology), and English. 

• Must have secured minimum qualifying marks in those subjects; for general category typically 50% aggregate in PCB; for reserved categories lower (e.g. 40%) 

• Must have qualified the NEET‑UG exam. 

• Must be at least 17 years old on or before 31 December of the year of admission.

MD/MS - 3 Years Course
