The Government Medical College, Pudukottai, is a medical college run by the state government of Tamil Nadu which was established in the Year 2017.  It is the first college in Tamil Nadu to admit 150 students in its first year of its inauguration in 2017, and is the 22nd government medical college and hospital in the state of Tamil Nadu.  Being the only medical college of this district, it caters to patients from four districts, namely Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Trichy & Sivaganga districts.

The College and hospital buildings, constructed on about 127 acres of land, are located in Mullur village,Thanjavur road, Puthukkottai, Tamil Nadu, India.  It is well-connected by air, road and rail to all major cities like Trichy, Thanjavur and Madurai. The nearest airport is at Trichy (45kms).  Being an Eco Friendly Campus, aggressive afforestation is being carried throughout the length and breadth of the Campus, with the aim to get more green cover than that was present in the area before the construction of the college.  Some NGOs, Students, Faculties, and Staff of the college are also involved in the process.

Government Medical College and Hospital Pudukottai is affiliated to The Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai and recognized by National Medical Commission (NMC) with an annual intake of 150 seats in MBBS.

The Medical College offers MBBS and six B.Sc. paramedical courses at UG level and DNB (Emergency Medicine) at PG level. Three Diploma and nine Certificate paramedical courses are also offered at this college.

The Medical college, with  modern and eco-friendly campus provides state of the art infrastructure, including technology infused Lecture halls to accommodate around 200+, Examination rooms, Demonstration rooms, Seminar halls, Departmental museums, well-equipped Laboratories,  Auditorium, Canteens and Recreation halls for students. There are separate hostel facilities for Boys and Girls and Indoor and Outdoor Games and Sports facilities. The college has a spacious Library area with an excellent collection of Medical books and International and National Journals, back volumes, Atlases, Dictionaries, Directories, Encyclopedia, Technical Reports, etc. There are separate Reading rooms and the E- library has good Internet facility. The college has pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical disciplines. 

The Attached 700-bed Hospital treats patients from Pudukottai and surrounding districts as well.   There are well-equipped Operation theatres and ICU's to treat patients.  24X7 emergency and trauma care facility, Eye bank and blood bank facilities are available. There are very good clinical and diagnostic facilities in the Hospital. The Hospital has facilities for burn treatment, Critical care services, Pharmacy and Physiotherapy. The Hospital's general specialities include General Medicine, General Surgery, OBG, Paediatrics, Orthopedics, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Radio diagnosis, ENT, Ophthalmology, Anesthesiology, Pathology, Microbiology, Biochemistry & Forensic Medicine.

MBBS Admission Process

Candidates are admitted to different MBBS programmes at Pudukkottai Medical College based on how well they score on the NEET exam. Students are doing internships with a stipend of Rs. 23,000 per month. After MBBS, if students get into PHC, the salary will be Rs. 50,000 per month. After completing PG, students can earn in lakhs. Placements are similar to other government medical colleges.
