Government Arts College, Nandanam, Chennai:600 035, , had originated in the middle of the 18th century as a School, called Madrasa, and in 1901, it was upgraded into a College with the objective of accommodating Muslim students, which continued till it acquired its present status in 1948. Ever since, equal opportunity came to be extended to students of all communities, irrespective of religious denomination.

At its present location, it is well situated to serve the needs of the pupils settled in the central regions of the Metropolis. Though it is situated in Chennai, it draws students from the neighboring districts. A distinct character of the Institution is that it caters to the needs of the lower rungs of the society.

This college offers both UG, PG and P.hD courses in Bachelor of Science (B.Sc), Bachelor of Arts (B.A), Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Master of Science (M.Sc), Master of Arts (MA), Master of Commerce (M.Com) and full time/part-time P.hD courses.

Admission to the UG program is offered on the basis of merit at the 10+2 level.
For PG Admissions, merit at the graduate level is required for admission.
For admission, the institute will release a merit list on the university website.
Candidates qualifying the merit should visit the institute and seek admission by paying the required fee.

Government Arts College for Men (GACM), Chennai is an autonomous institute that was initially established as a school back in 1901. It was upgraded to a college in 1948.

Placement and Career Guidance cell is established to support the students of both UG and PG to get placed in renowned companies. Loan/ Scholarship Provisions: Since the fees were feasible, no scholarshp / loan facility were offered by my college. However, for the SC/STs, college fees were refunded after a gap of 6 months to one year.A scholarship is an award of financial aid for a student to further their education. Scholarships are awarded based upon various criteria, which usually reflect the values and purposes of the donor or founder of the award. Scholarship money is not required to be repaid.
