Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, popularly known as Ludhiana Veterinary College or GADVASU, Ludhiana, is a leading veterinary university in Punjab which was established on 9th of August 2005.   It was a part of Punjab Agricultural University and was established to serve the society by promoting the livestock production, health and prevention of diseases through integrated teaching and extension programs.  The mission of the college is to produce Veterinary Graduates, Scientists and Extension workers for promoting better livestock health, by prevention of disease, increasing production and reproduction of livestock, thus improving the quality of rural life in Punjab.  Dr Inderjeet Singh is leading the University as its Dean.

The GADVASU campus is spread over an area of 67 acres on the NH 95, Punjab Agricultural University, Ferozpur Road, Near Verka Milk Company, Ludhiana, Punjab.  It is very easy for first-time visitors to locate this establishment.

GADVASU is Recognized by UGC and ICAR and it is Approved by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI).  The ICAR has ranked GADVASU as over all 9th best among the Agricultural Universities, Veterinary Universities and ICAR Research Institutes and 1st among the State Veterinary Universities of India in 2017.

GADVASU offers more than 20 courses in various streams including UG, PG, Dip, PG Dip/Short/Certificate Courses and Doctoral programs.  It offers BVSc&AH, B.Tech. (Dairy Trechnology /Biotechnology Engg). BFSc. (Bachelor of Fisheries Science),  MESc, MVSc, MTech, Diploma, PG Diploma and Certificate Courses.  It offers Ph.D. in many subjects including Veterinary Science, Animal Biotechnology, Fisheries and Dairy Science and Technology.  For admissions in UG courses, the minimum qualification is 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English with minimum 50% aggregate marks.  Candidates will be selected on merit basis of NEET score. And for admissions in PG courses the minimum qualification is a bachelor's degree in a relevant field with a minimum CGPA of 6.00 (out of 10.00) and the candidates will be selected via AIEEA PG entrance exam.

The university conducts research and academic initiatives at national and international levels in collaboration with institutions such as such as National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal and University of Saskatchewan, Canada.  Various Training and Conferences are organized for different disciplines in collaboration with ICAR, ASCI and Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana.

The facilities at GADVASU campus comprises of College Buildings, Hospital, Animal Farms, and Fodder production Area, Boys and Girls Hostels, Auditorium, labs, Sports Centre, Library and Wi-fi connectivity.    

The Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the University caters to the demands of large and small animal health and provides specialized treatment for the referred livestock patients and also provide clinical training to the students. Admission Process

1. Qualify NEET-UG:
   Candidates apply, appear for, and secure NEET-UG scores meeting the university’s cutoff for their category.

2. Counselling & Seat Allocation:

   • Admissions proceed through NEET-based merit counselling, allocated per category and quota. 

   • There are multiple seat categories:

     • General (State Quota), SC/ST, BC, SP, FF, AF, TA, DP, EWS, Self‑Financed, NRI/OCI, EWQ (Employee Ward Quota), and an additional Kashmiri Migrant seat. Merit Tie-Breaking:

3. Utilizes the "One candidate, one rank" system as established in NEET-UG merit list. 

4. Document Verification & Reporting:
   Selected candidates must complete verification of required documents within the stipulated time—typically during counselling rounds—to confirm their admission.

5. Seat Confirmation:
   Failure to report after seat allotment may result in cancellation of admission. 

Eligiblity

• Minimum Educational Qualification
  Applicants must have completed 10+2 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English, securing at least 50% aggregate marks (excluding any optional subjects).

  • For SC/ST, BC, and DP categories, the minimum is 47.5%. NEET-UG Requirement

• Admission is based on meeting or exceeding the NEET-UG cutoff marks for the respective category. 

• Self‑Financed / Category‑II / Management Quota
  Applicants under these categories must still meet the General (State Quota) eligibility criteria. NEET cutoffs for these categories may be specified separately during counselling. 

• NRI / OCI Category

  • Exempt from NEET-UG requirements.

  • Must have passed 10+2 with at least 50% in each of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English.

  • Qualifications are subject to equivalence verification.

  • Preference may be given to candidates of Punjab or Chandigarh origin.

  Meritorious UG students receive ₹1,000 per month, awarded based on merit in qualifying exams or rank at admission. 

• National Talent Scholarship (ICAR/VCI)
  UG students may receive ₹3,000 per month for the full program duration, subject to meeting eligibility conditions. 

• Dr. G. S. Khush Scholarships
  For students from rural backgrounds—two awards for B.V.Sc. & A.H. / B.Tech., and one for B.F.Sc.—₹1,200 per month. Eligibility is merit-based (NEET/JEE/10+2).
