Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, popularly known as Ludhiana Veterinary College or GADVASU, Ludhiana, is a leading veterinary university in Punjab which was established on 9th of August 2005.   It was a part of Punjab Agricultural University and was established to serve the society by promoting the livestock production, health and prevention of diseases through integrated teaching and extension programs.  The mission of the college is to produce Veterinary Graduates, Scientists and Extension workers for promoting better livestock health, by prevention of disease, increasing production and reproduction of livestock, thus improving the quality of rural life in Punjab.  Dr Inderjeet Singh is leading the University as its Dean.

The GADVASU campus is spread over an area of 67 acres on the NH 95, Punjab Agricultural University, Ferozpur Road, Near Verka Milk Company, Ludhiana, Punjab.  It is very easy for first-time visitors to locate this establishment.

GADVASU is Recognized by UGC and ICAR and it is Approved by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI).  The ICAR has ranked GADVASU as over all 9th best among the Agricultural Universities, Veterinary Universities and ICAR Research Institutes and 1st among the State Veterinary Universities of India in 2017.

GADVASU offers more than 20 courses in various streams including UG, PG, Dip, PG Dip/Short/Certificate Courses and Doctoral programs.  It offers BVSc&AH, B.Tech. (Dairy Trechnology /Biotechnology Engg). BFSc. (Bachelor of Fisheries Science),  MESc, MVSc, MTech, Diploma, PG Diploma and Certificate Courses.  It offers Ph.D. in many subjects including Veterinary Science, Animal Biotechnology, Fisheries and Dairy Science and Technology.  For admissions in UG courses, the minimum qualification is 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English with minimum 50% aggregate marks.  Candidates will be selected on merit basis of NEET score. And for admissions in PG courses the minimum qualification is a bachelor's degree in a relevant field with a minimum CGPA of 6.00 (out of 10.00) and the candidates will be selected via AIEEA PG entrance exam.

The university conducts research and academic initiatives at national and international levels in collaboration with institutions such as such as National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal and University of Saskatchewan, Canada.  Various Training and Conferences are organized for different disciplines in collaboration with ICAR, ASCI and Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana.

The facilities at GADVASU campus comprises of College Buildings, Hospital, Animal Farms, and Fodder production Area, Boys and Girls Hostels, Auditorium, labs, Sports Centre, Library and Wi-fi connectivity.    

The Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the University caters to the demands of large and small animal health and provides specialized treatment for the referred livestock patients and also provide clinical training to the students. In addition the college also has Dairy and Poultry Farms which provide facilities for Teaching and Research.

To meet the national and international demands of high quality and skilled professionals, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) is constantly making targeted efforts for the development of sustainable animal husbandry. With assistance of IDP, GADVASU aims at filling existing gaps through capacity building and training of both students and faculty at various international platforms, updating of existing infrastructure, networking with industries and universities of national and international repute, promotion of skill development, seeding innovation amongst young minds, increasing employability and entrepreneurial outlook, and adopting a revenue generation model for sustainability in long run.

MISSION

Development of resources and mechanism for supporting infrastructure, faculty, and student advancement for raising the standard of current agricultural education system that provides more jobs and is entrepreneurship oriented. It aims to bring Indian agricultural/ veterinary universities at par with global standards so that they can attract talented students in this field.

B.V.Sc. & A.H. ( 5 1/2 - year Programmes)

The candidate should have a minimum qualification of 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English from a Board/University recognized by Council of Boards of School Education in India with at least 50% marks (47.5% for SC/ST, BC and DP categories) in aggregate excluding the optional subject(s).
Candidates securing equal to or more than the NEET(UG) - 2023 cut-off marks as per category, will be considered for admission. This cut-off may be reduced during subsequent counselling(s).
Candidates seeking admission under Self-Financed category/Category-II will have to fulfill eligibility requirements of the General category (State Quota/Category-I) specified during the admission process. NEET (UG) - 2023 cut-off marks for Self-Financed category/Category-II may be specified separately during the admission process.
Breaking of Tie in the Merit List: “One candidate one rank” criteria of NEET (UG) - 2023 Merit List will be followed.
(II) B.F.Sc. (4-year programme)

The Candidate should have a minimum Qualification of 10+2 (Medical) or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English from any recognized Board of school education in the country, with at least 50% marks (40% for SC/ST, BC and DP categories) in aggregate excluding the optional subjects(s).
(III) B.Tech. (Dairy Technology) (4-year programme)

The Candidate should have a minimum Qualification of 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English from any recognized Board of school education in the country, with at least 50% marks (40% for SC/ST, BC and DP categories) in aggregate excluding the optional subjects(s).
(IV) B.Tech. (Biotechnology) (4-year programme)

The candidate should have a minimum qualification of 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Mathematics and English from a recognized Indian Board/University with at least 50% marks (40% for SC/ST, BC and DP categories) in aggregate excluding the optional subject(s).

Eligibility Criteria for Master Programmes
The minimum eligibility qualification for admission to Master’s programmes of the university is OCPA/OGPA of 6.00/10.00 or 60% marks in aggregate in the graduation degree (in respective discipline as shown below) from a recognized institute/college/university established by law in India.

Note:

1. For enlisted M.Tech programmes, preference will be given to the candidates with B.Tech. (Dairy Technology) degree.

2. Preference will be given to the candidate with B.Tech. (Dairy Technology), B.V.Sc. & A.H. and B.F.Sc. degree.

3. Candidates admitted under DBT- Postgraduate Teaching Programme.

- Students may have to clear deficiency courses as suggested by the student’s advisory committee.

Master Programmes for in-service candidates

The minimum requirement for in-service candidates for admission to Master’s programmes in the constituent colleges of the university is OCPA/OGPA of 5.50/10.00 or 55% marks in aggregate in the graduation degree (in respective discipline as shown in table under Sr. No. 8.2.2) from a recognized institute/college/university established by law in India. A minimum of two years professional experience (after completion of Bachelor’s degree) in any department of Punjab Government/Union Territory of Chandigarh/Central or State Government/SemiGovernment organizations on the last date of receipt of applications.

Note:

(i) The in-service candidate will be considered for admission only if his/her application is duly forwarded through proper channel by the Head/sanctioning authority after certifying that during the study period his/her lien will be retained and on completion of studies, the candidate will join back on the said post.

(ii) The preference for admission under in-service category will be given to the candidates working with Punjab Government/Semi-Government organization followed by other state candidates.

(iii) The candidate will be awarded M.V.Sc./M.F.Sc./M. Sc. or M.Tech. according to his/her qualifying degree for the programme at the time of admission.

Name of Scholarship/ Stipends/Fellowships and Other Awards Fellowships Type

a.University Scholarship: This scholarship, valued at Rs. 500/- per month, is awarded to meritorious students of undergraduate programmes on the basis of score/rank/marks obtained in the qualifying test/ examination merit list for admission. The number of scholarships is determined college wise by the academic council from time to time.Rs. 500 per month

b.National Talent Scholarships: The ICAR/VCI awards merit scholarships in undergraduate programmes for the full duration of the degree programme subject to fulfillment of prescribed conditions. The value of scholarship is Rs. 3000/- per month for UG student.Rs. 3000 per month

c.Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) Scheme: It is a centrally sponsored scheme with a 60:40 sharing ratio between the Centre and States (90:10 in case of North Eastern States).

Eligibility:
Scholarships will be paid to the scheduled caste students whose parents'/guardians' income from all sources does not exceed Rs. 2,50,000/- (Rupees two lakh fifty thousand only) during the last financial year. Income certificate is required to be taken once only i.e. at the time of admission only to courses which are continuing for more than one year. The income certificate shall be issued by the Authority as decided by the State Government.

The scholarship includes: - Compulsory non-refundable fees including tuition fee, as fixed by the Fee Fixation/ Rationalization Committee of the State Government and Academic Allowance (10% extra allowance for Divyang (physically challenged) students.

Freeship Card All eligible students shall be entitled to take admission in the institutions without pre¬ payment of tuition fees and hostel fees (but will pay refundable charges) as per the Scheme Guidelines available on the site https://scholarships.gov.in under Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. To enable this, a FREESHIP CARD will be issued by the State Government to the eligible students. This Freeship card shall make the student eligible to study in the institution without pre-payment of the fees, and on the condition that as and when amount is released to the student's account, the institution would be intimated to collect the same from the student.

Student should have a valid functional Mobile Number, Aadhar Number (UID), Aadhar linked Bank Account, Income Certificate, Caste Certificate and Passing Certificate for applying on the Dr Ambedkar Scholarship Portal, Government of Punjab at www.scholarships.punjab.gov.in (select 'New Registration' from 14-04-2022 onwards). The student shall, well before the expected date of admission, register for issuance of a Freeship Card on the respective scholarship portal giving the details like the Aadhaar number, the name of the course in which he/she wants to take admission (e.g. M.Sc./ M.V.Sc./ B.V.Sc./ B.Sc./ B.Tech./ Diploma etc.) and an undertaking that the institution's charges would be paid within 7 working days from the date of receipt of the scholarship amount in his/her account. For the purpose of registration of Freeship Card, the portals shall remain open throughout the year. For the purpose of admission, the Freeship card will remain valid for period of one year from the date of issue.
Note: Those without Freeship card will have to deposit the full fee.

d.Dr. G. S. Khush Scholarships: Two Scholarships each for the students of B.V.Sc. & A.H. and B.Tech. (Dairy Tech.); and one scholarship for students of B.F.Sc. will be awarded by Dr. G. S. Khush Foundation for Agriculture Sciences @ Rs.1200/- per month. The scholarship will be awarded to the students from rural background only, on the basis of merit of NEET (UG)/JEE (Mains)/10+2 examination (as applicable) in first professional year and on the basis of OGPA/OCPA of the previous year for subsequent years. Rs. 1200 per month

e.Sports Scholarship: The University awards the sports scholarship @ Rs. 350/- per month on fulfillment of prescribed conditions. The number of scholarships are four for major games (viz., Hockey, Football, Athletics and Cricket) and four for the minor games.Rs. 350 per month
Awards
a.Mata Ind Kaur Award: A cash award up to a maximum of Rs. 10,000/- per annum will be awarded to three meritorius B.F.Sc. students who have achieved maximum OCPA but not less than 7.00 out of 10.00 at the end of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year of the degree programme and who are not in receipt of any other fellowship.

b.Dr. Balwant Singh Memorial Award: The award will be awarded to three students of B.V.Sc &A.H. degree programme who have secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions on the basis of marks obtained in the course of Veterinary Pathology offered during second professional year of B.V.Sc &A.H. degree programme and will enroll in third professional year.

Annually
c.Amar-Gian Award: A case award upto a maximum of Rs. 11,000/- per annum with a certificate will be awarded to one male and one female student having Highest OCPA/OGPA in B.V.Sc. & A. H on completion of degree, and one male and one female Best Athelete (total four awards) from amongst the students of constituent colleges of the university.

Annually
Note for all Scholarships/Fellowships: Each student can avail only one fellowship/scholarship irrespective of his/her eligibility. The eligibility for the fellowship/scholarship will be determined considering the detailed guidelines for institution of the specific fellowship/ scholarship.

Merit Certificates
1.Merit Certificates are awarded to the students who achieve an OCPA/OGPA of 8.00 or more out of 10.00 at the end of their Bachelor’s Degree Programme.

Gold Medals and Medals
The Gold Medals are conferred at the time of Convocation/Annual Function as under:

1.College Gold Medals: The college level Gold Medal is awarded to a student securing highest OCPA/OGPA (but not less than 8.00 out of 10.00) in the class in the programmes of constitutent colleges.

2.Dr. Balwant Singh Gold Medal: The Medal is awarded to an all-round best graduate student from all the constituent and affiliated colleges of the University.

3.Dr. Kulbir Singh Sandhu Meritorious Medal: The Medal will be awarded to an Overall Outsatndind Fisheries Graduate (B.F.Sc.) in the college of Fisheries, GADVASU, Ludhiana.
