The idea of starting a college at Kovilpatti was mooted on 29 April, 1966 by the auspices of the G.Kuppuswamy Naidu Charity Trust for Education and Medical Relief. G.Venkataswamy Naidu College was born on 30 June, 1966. The regular classes commenced with the blessings of the Zamindar of Illayarasanendal Shri K.R.Appaswamy Naidu. The college was formally inaugurated on 17 July, 1966 by Honorable Mr.M.Bakthavatsalam, Chief-Minister of Madras. The college began with four sections of Pre-University Courses, two in Science and two in Humanities. The very next year the college was affiliated to Madurai University with B.A (History) and B.Sc (Mathematics) courses. Degree courses in B.Sc- Physics, Chemistry, Botany and B.Com were began in 1989. The College was further upgraded into a Post- Graduate Institution by starting M.Sc (Mathematics). In view of the successful growth of the college, the management decided to start Career Oriented courses in the year 1994 under Self-Financing Scheme and decided to conduct all the Self-Financing courses in a separate campus with excellent infra-structural facilities. As a first step, B.Sc (Computer Science) course was started under the affiliation of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli and the other courses BBA, B.Sc. (Elect.), B.Sc. (CDF), B.Sc. (IT), B.Com. (CA) and B.A. (English), PG Courses - M.Sc.(CS), M.Sc. (IT), M.Com.(CA), Research Programme - M.Phil. (Com) were started one after another in the subsequent years.
