Hinduhrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackarey Medical College (HBTMC) and Dr. Rustom Narsi Cooper Municipal General Hospital is a major hospital in western suburbs. It is fourth medical college of Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai apart from other three MCGM Medical Colleges established in Mumbai.This hospital is established in 1969 and upgraded into Medical college in August 2015. The college is raised with the auspicious guidance and successful leadership of respected Dr. Ramesh M. Chaturvedi the founder and first Dean of this Medical college.Hospital started as a Maternity Home in 1969 which was upgraded to General Hospital in 1970. Since 1977, it was recognized as Teaching Hospital, affiliated to KEM Hospital.

The newly redeveloped Cooper hospital was inaugurated on 30/11/2013. This is a 715 bedded tertiary care hospital having bed occupancy ratio of 70.25% with all general specialities.Funded by MCGM,this hospital provides virtually free of cost treatment mostly to underprivileged sections of the society and treats about 6 lacs OPD and about 30 thousand IPD patients annually. Hospital also has one urban health training centre and 3 primary health centre.

HBTMC provides training in undergraduate medical courses to around 200 students per year and postgraduate MD/MS and DNB courses in some specialities. College also started CPS courses in year 2016. College has School of nursing which was established in 1979 with intake of 30 students per year. It also imparts practical training in medical laboratory technology, nursing and observer ships in different specialties.

Directorate of Medical Education and Research Maharashtra has granted essentiality certificate for affiliation with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. Thus Accreditation obtain for Medical College with intake capacity of 200 students per year. In 2015, this institute received letter of permission (LOP) from Medical council of India and first batch of M.B.B.S. was admitted.In 2016 this institute received letter of first renewal from Medical council of India.Currently, a multistoreyed building is under construction to add to the infrastructure of this institute.

Admission Criteria

Admission Process

Admission to HBT Medical College is based on the marks scored by the candidate in the entrance examinations. For MBBS, the college accepts valid scores for NEET/MHT-CET exams. Whereas, admission to MD/MS courses is done on the basis of NEET-PG scores. After qualifying for the respective examinations, the candidates need to register for the All India and State Counselling Process conducted by MCC and DMER, Maharashtra respectively. HBT Medical College offers admission to 15% of MBBS and 50% of MD/MS seats through the All-India Quota. The candidates can also take admission through State Quota in 85% of MBBS and 50% of MD/MS seats in HBT Medical College. Admission to the Diploma courses is made on the basis of merit in the previous qualifying examination.

• HBT Medical College charges a non-refundable admission fee for UG applicants worth INR 590.
  
• For the PG applicants, HBT Medical College charges INR 1,500 as a non-refundable admission fee.
