I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) was established by an Act of State Legislature on 16th January, 1997, to promote technical, management and pharmaceutical education in the state at degree level and above. It was established as Punjab Technical University and renamed as I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University by State Government in the honor to Late Sh. Inder Kumar Gujral, Former Prime Minister of India, in 2015. The University has the mandate to set up centres of excellence in emerging technologies and for promoting training, research and development in these areas. The University has undertaken the task of training students to help in the development of skilled manpower in this sector in the country in general and in the state in particular. With this goal in mind, the university is promoting a number of courses in different streams in regular as well as distance education programmes. At present University have 121 AICTE and 65 UGC institutes affiliated with it.

IKGPTU is undertaking and supervising the instructions and award of 30+ bachelor’s degrees in Engineering & Technology & 20+ in non-AICTE & UGC courses. The University has a land area of 78.16 acres & it owns more than 10 campuses throughout the state of Punjab.

I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University (PTU) has bagged the much coveted Best Technical University Award for the year 2013. The Award, instituted by Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) and Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneswar, encourages technical universities to enhance their performance and to serve the community as well as stakeholders by improving quality and maintaining the standard of the programs offered.

IKGPTU has also been conferred upon eINDlA 2010 Award of the Year as “ICT Enabled University of the Year” and “Open and Distance Learning Initiative of the Year Award” by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Govt. of India, at Hyderabad on August 5, 2010.

IKGPTU is offering a number of schemes for students like SC/ST welfare schemes, in which no fee is to be paid by the SC/ST students, and also is successfully executing the schemes of Punjab Government. The university also offers free schemes for needy & scholar students. It also offers various scholarship schemes like GATE Scholarship, JRF and SRF scholarships, UGC/NET Schemes and Scholarships, research grants, research and development projects etc.

IKGPTU provides a platform to its students to get them acquainted with the industrial needs by providing them industrial training throughout the year. The job fairs are organized regularly. The university also participates in different industrial fairs as well as in trade expo. The university has signed MoUs & other collaborations with various national & international companies.

IKG PTU is always concerned about the training & placement of its students. Faculty Development Programs have been regularly organized to provide the best faculty by calling resource persons from IITs, IIMs & NITs.The University has a mission to provide excellent education to the IKGPTU students and make the affiliated institutes as Centres of Excellence.

Mission

Admission to I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University, Mohali Campus-I is generally based on the eligibility requirements prescribed for the respective programme and the admission guidelines of IKGPTU. For undergraduate programmes, candidates must meet the required academic qualifications and, where applicable, qualify through the prescribed entrance examination or merit-based selection process. Eligible candidates need to complete the online application/registration process, submit the required documents and participate in counselling or the applicable selection procedure. Admission is confirmed after seat allotment, document verification and payment of the prescribed fees within the stipulated time.

Admission Process

• Candidates should complete the prescribed online registration/application for admission through the IKGPTU admission system.
• Candidates must satisfy the prescribed B.Tech eligibility requirements and participate in the applicable centralized online counselling/admission process.
• Seats are allotted according to the applicable admission rules, merit and reservation norms of IKGPTU/Punjab Government.
• After seat allotment, candidates must report to the allotted campus, complete document verification and submit the required admission/fee documents.
• Admission is confirmed after successful verification and payment of the prescribed fees.

Eligibility

• Candidates should have passed 10+2 or an equivalent examination from a recognized board.
• The qualifying examination should include Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with the prescribed third subject(s) according to the applicable B.Tech regulations.
• Candidates must satisfy the minimum marks requirement prescribed by the applicable regulatory/admission authorities.
• Candidates seeking lateral entry to B.Tech must meet the separate diploma/qualification requirements prescribed by IKGPTU and Punjab Government norms.
• Reservation and relaxation in eligibility are applicable according to the prevailing Punjab Government/IKGPTU rules.

BCA

Admission Process

• Candidates need to register online through the IKGPTU admission portal for the BCA programme.
• Eligible candidates participate in the prescribed counselling/selection process, with admission conducted according to the university's applicable rules.
• Candidates submit their academic and other required documents during the admission process.
• Seats are allotted according to the applicable merit, reservation and admission norms.
• After allotment, candidates complete physical/online reporting as required and pay the prescribed fees to confirm admission. BCA is a 3-year, 6-semester programme.

Eligibility

• Candidates must have passed 10+2 or an equivalent examination.
• The qualifying examination should be from a recognized Board, University or Council.
• Candidates from the prescribed qualifying streams are eligible according to the university's current admission rules.
• Candidates seeking BCA lateral entry (LEET) must satisfy the separate qualification requirements prescribed by IKGPTU.
• Reservation and other applicable relaxations are provided according to Punjab Government/IKGPTU norms.

I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University, Mohali Campus-I provides several scholarship opportunities through the university and government schemes. For the 2026–27 academic session, the university offers a Merit Scholarship Scheme for students admitted to its main and constituent campuses. For B.Tech and B.Arch students entering the first semester, students with 90% or above can receive 50% of the tuition fee, while those scoring 80% to below 90% can receive 25%. For other UG and PG programmes, students with 80% or above can receive 50%, while those with 70% to below 80% can receive 25%. From subsequent semesters, scholarships are awarded based on semester performance, with a minimum 7.0 CGPA, and the top 20% of students may receive 50% or 25% of tuition fees according to their merit position. The campus also lists the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme for SC/ST/OBC students of Punjab, PM-USP scheme for J&K and Ladakh students, and scholarships available through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Students can normally avail only one scholarship/freeship scheme at a time and must satisfy the applicable eligibility and conduct requirements
