IIT Bombay is an autonomous institute and deemed university governed by a board of governors, chaired by the president of India. It operates under the guidance of the IIT Council, established by India's ministry of education (MoE) (earlier called human resource development). The director, appointed by MoE, leads the institute for a five-year term, overseeing academic matters and serving on various committees. In 1958, IIT Bombay was established as part of a government initiative inspired by recommendations from a committee led by Sir Nalini Ranjan Sarkar. Admission Procedure

IIT Bombay offers 60 courses across UG, PG, and Doctoral levels in disciplines such as Engineering, Science, Management, and Design. Popular programs at the institute include B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc, MBA, and Ph.D, which attract students from across India and abroad.

Admission Criteria

B.Tech Admission

IIT Bombay offers admission to B.Tech in 11 specializations, among which CSE is the most preferred.. The B.Tech fee is INR 8.83 Lakhs for the entire program.

B.Tech Eligibility 

Candidates seeking admission to B.Tech courses must have 10+2 with 75% marks in PCM. Selection of the candidates will be based on JEE Main, JEE Advanced score/rank, followed by JoSAA Counselling.

M.Tech Admission 

IITB offers admission to M.Tech in 39 specializations. M.Tech fee at IITB is INR 1.24 Lakhs for the entire duration.

M.Tech Eligibility

Candidates seeking admission to M.Tech courses must have a degree in BE/B.Tech/B.Arch in the relevant discipline with 60% marks. Selection of the candidates will be based on a valid score/rank in GATE and their performance in COAP Counselling.

B.Des & M.Des Admission 

IIT Bombay offers admission to a 4-year full-time B.Des and 2-year full-time M.Des courses. M.Des by Research is offered for a duration of 1.5 - 3 years, depending on the research. The institute conducts UCEED and CEED exams for admission to B.Des and M.Des / M.Des by Research courses, respectively.

PhD Admission

IITB offers admission to PhD courses under 4 categories, namely Institute Assistantship, Individual Fellowship (ie, CSIR / UGC /DBT / ICMR / INSPIRE etc.), Sponsored, and Working Professionals. PhD courses are offered in Engineering, Sciences, Management, Design, and Humanities & Social Sciences.
