Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, (IIITDM) Kancheepuram 

  Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, (IIITDM) Kancheepuram is a public institution established in 2007 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India to pursue Design and Manufacturing oriented engineering education, research and to promote the competitive advantage of Indian products in global markets. It is one of the two IIITDMs, the other one is IIITDM Jabalpur. It was declared as an Institute of National Importance (INI) by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, in July 2011, thus becoming the first IIIT to be accorded this status. Later on 1st December 2014, IIIT Bill 2014 was passed by the Parliament, thus granting the status of Institutes of National Importance upon the 5 MHRD funded IIITs including IIITDM Kancheepuram. Previously IIITDM Kancheepuram was mentoring IIITDM Kurnool in its new campus at Chennai.  The Institute is recognized by UGC as well as AICTE.

   In 2011, The institute, which was operating from its temporary campus within the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, which was also its mentor institute, had moved to its permanent 51 acre campus on the outskirts of Chennai, off the  Kelambakkam-Vandalur road near Chennai in 2011.  

  Dr. Sridhar Vembu, Founder and CEO Zoho Corporation has been appointed as Chairman, Board of Governors of IIITDM Kancheepuram by the honorable President of India for a term of three years w.e.f. 25.08.2023.

  The Institute is presently offering B.Tech programmes in Computer Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering (Design & Manufacturing) and Mechanical Engineering (Design & Manufacturing), 5 Dual Degree Programmes leading to B.Tech and M.Tech Degrees, M.Des in Electronic Systems Design, Communication Systems Design, Mechanical Systems Design and inter-disciplinary Ph.D programmes in core and applied areas of engineering. Admission to the undergraduate programmes is based on All India Rank (AIR) in Joint Entrance Examination (Main) (JEE-Main). Admission to foreigners is through Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA). From the academic year 2016, the Institute has  introduced  B.Tech Mechanical (Smart Manufacturing). The faculty members of the Institute are also involved in sponsored and consultancy research projects from reputed industries and government organisations.   

  The curricula for all the programs have been framed after extensive deliberations and discussions with IITs, IISc and other reputed Institute faculty members and industry stake holders. The programmes are aimed at providing solutions to current technological challenges in wide domains like Robotics, Home Entertainment, Telecommunication Automotive systems, etc. Design engineers and researchers passing out from IIITDM Kancheepuram will find scope and relevance in IT and IT-enabled product companies, in particular analog and digital electronics IC companies, embedded systems players, automotive design, consumer product design and manufacturing and knowledge/service based industries. With mastery in domain specific design, engineering skills and required managerial expertise, our graduates can entrepreneur organisations involved in the design and manufacture of commercially successful electronic or mechanical products.

  The sprawiling IIITDM Kancheepuram is fully residential with all students residing within the campus. It houses the academic block, the administrative block, lecture hall complex and laboratory block.

  The Institute provides various facilities for its students, viz.

  Library: The institute has a central library with a large and diverse collection of books by international and national authors.
Hostel: This facility is available for boys and girls. The hostel room is equipped with a reading table, a chair, and a cot.
Dining and Shopping: The facility of dining and shopping (Convenience stores/department stores) is also available in the campus.
Medical Aid Centre: Medical assistance is available 24x7 for all the residents. The institute has also tie-ups with nearby hospitals.
  ATM: An Indian Bank ATM and e-launch service facility are available for the residents.
Hostels:  There are separate Boys and Girls Hostels which are fully equiped with all basic requiremenrts.

  To encourage the students to showcase their inherent and acquired talents IIITDM organises Cultural and Technical festivals:

  Samgatha is IIITDM's inter-college cultural festival conducted every year in the month of March. It derives its name from the Sanskrit word "Samgatha" which means "Confluence". 
Vashisht is IIITDM's inter-college technical festival conducted every year in the month of October. The fest originally was part of the techno-cultural fest "Samgatha". The first iteration of this fest was conducted in 2019.[citation needed]

  SSG (acronym for Social Service Group) is an Institute sponsored Student Body which undertakes numerous social and environmental initiatives. Ranging from eye checkup and blood donation camps to conducting cleanliness drive in zoos and beaches, SSG conducts more than 15 large scale volunteered programs in and around the college campus. It is the largest volunteer organization in the institute.

  IIITDM Kancheepuram is envisioned as an academic institution of excellence that would facilitate and promote the competitive advantage of Indian products in global markets. It will serve as an inter-disciplinary institution for education and research in the area of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) encompassing design and manufacturing using state of the art concepts, tools, processes and practices of the industry world over.

  Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design & Manufacturing (IIITDM), Kancheepuram is best for academics ad placements. Facilities offered are also good. IIITDM Kancheepuram offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs which focus on IT, design and manufacturing in engineering sectors. It is approved by AICTE.

IIITDM Kancheepuram Admission Process
  In BTech, candidates are admitted based on their performance in JEE Main and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). MTech aspirants will get admission through the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).

  The motto of the institute is “Learning by Doing”. It is put into practice in IIITDM Kancheepuram in terms of its teaching. The institute envisages significant amount of emphasis for practice courses as theory ethical concepts are explored along with the relevant laboratory courses. All the programs are highly interdisciplinary and students are free to choose their specializations. The institute also follows its vision of developing engineers with design and manufacturing skills. The following are the programmes currently being offered by IIITDM Kancheepuram.

SC/ST Scholarship

  SC/ST students admitted to B.Tech programme whose parental income is less than Rs.4.5 lakhs are eligible for concession of mess charges and exempted from payment of hostel seat rent. They are granted a pocket allowance of Rs.250/-p.m. Further they are also exempted from payment of tuition fees.

Invitation

  Placement Cell (nodal point for placements at IIITDM Kancheepuram), assisted by student representatives, sends invitation to companies along with relevant information and documents – Placement Brochure, Employer Registration Form (ERF) A company can also show interest in recruiting IIITDM Kancheepuram students by contacting Placement Cell, IIITDM Kancheepuram by writing to placement@iiitdm.ac.in, stating intent to visit IIITDM Kancheepuram campus for recruitment. 

Response

  After receiving filled in ERF and relevant information from a company T&P Cell will reply within 2-3 working days through email. The dates for campus interviews are allotted on the basis of information provided in ERF. It is expected that correct and complete information is provided by companies in ERF.

Conclusion

   The decision regarding the dates is at the discretion of the T&P cell. Companies are expected to strictly adhere to the time and dates slots allowed to them. Any change must be notified in advance. The facility of video conferencing is available at the campus and can be availed for the purpose of interviewing candidates in case the company is unable to visit the campus.

 The campus houses three multi-storey hostel blocks, each with a capacity of approximately 550 students. Each hostel is equipped with the requisite infrastructure to ensure the comfort and safety of its residents. Rooms are equipped with basic furniture, including, chairs, study-tables, cots, almirahs. Further, each hostel block has spacious common rooms where residents have access to TVs, indoor board games, newspapers and magazines for their recreation. All the hostels are provided with high-speed internet, washing machines, water coolers, hot water, RO purified drinking water, and other key facilities. Our dedicated housekeeping staffs regularly clean the hostel common areas and bathrooms. Additionally, each hostel block has round-the-clock-security to ensure the safety of its residents. The day-to-day management of hostels is taken care of by resident Care takers, assistant warden, who work under the guidance of the council of wardens and Chief Warden.
