Admission Criteria

B.Tech Admission

IIT Bhubaneswar offers admission to B.Tech in 7 specializations. IIT Bhubaneswar Admission to B.Tech courses is offered based on JEE Advanced rank/score and JoSAA Counselling.

B.Tech Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates should have passed 10+2 in the science stream with a minimum of 75% marks.
  
• Candidates of SC/ST must have scored 65% in 10+2. Alternatively, candidates in the top 20 percentile in class 12 can also apply for B.Tech admission.
  
• Candidates must have a valid JEE Advanced score.

M.Tech Admissions

IIT Bhubaneswar offers a five-year-long integrated dual degree program (B.Tech+M.Tech) in 9 specializations. The institute charges a total fee of INR 2.41 lakhs with a seating capacity of 90 students. After successful completion of the program, students will be awarded a degree in B.Tech and M.Tech. Admissions into the program are done based on JEE Advanced followed by JoSAA counseling.

MTech Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for admission to the IIT Bhubaneswar B.Tech+MTech program, candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

• Candidates must have completed their 10+2 from any recognized board of education, with physics, chemistry, and mathematics as required subjects, and have a minimum aggregate of 60%.
  
• Non-GATE/JEE Advanced candidates must achieve a minimum of 80% marks or 8.5 CGPA in 10+2.

M.Sc Admission

IIT Bhubaneswar offers a two-year-long M.Sc program in five different specializations. The annual fee is INR 48,890, and the total seat intake is 100 students. Admissions into the program are based on scores obtained in the IIT JAM entrance examination.

MSc Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for admission to the IIT Bhubaneswar M.Sc program, candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

• B.Sc degree from a recognized university/institute with a minimum aggregate of 50%.
  
• A valid score in the IIT JAM entrance examination.

PhD Admission

IIT Bhubaneswar offers admission to PhDs in 16 specializations. IIT Bhubaneswar Admission to PhD courses is based on a written test conducted by the institute followed by an interview. The annual fee for PhD program is INR 48,890.

PhD Eligibility

Candidate must have a master's degree in Engineering with 60% aggregate marks, a bachelor's degree in Engineering with 75% aggregate marks, a master's degree in science with 65% aggregate marks, or a bachelor's degree in science with 60% aggregate marks.

Scholarship

IIT Bhubaneswar offers scholarships to its 1st-year students of any 4 years B.Tech program on the basis of their merits and parental annual income. The institute also considers the past academic records of a student and entrance scores (if applicable). However, the Merit Cum Means Scholarship is awarded to only 25% of the students, while the Free Studentship is awarded to only 10% of students. The details regarding the Merit Cum Means Scholarship/ Free Studentship are as follows. 

Merit Criterion: 

For the 1st year students admitted at IIT Bhubaneswar, the scholarship is decided on the basis of scores of JEE Entrance exam and the last qualifying examination. However, the weightage for the JEE score and the last qualifying exam is 50-50%. 

Means Criteria: 

The annual parental income of the student from all sources should not exceed INR 4.5 lakhs. 

Scholarship Awards: 

The selected scholars will be exempted from the payment of the full tuition fee as a Scholarship award. 

Placement

IIT Bhubaneswar has not completed its 2025 placement yet. As per the IIT Bhubaneswar placement 2024 report, the highest package for UG (4-year) courses is INR 64 LPA in the field of computer science and engineering, and for PG (2-year) courses, it is INR 20 LPA in 2024 in Masters in Technology (MTech). The top recruiters at IIT Bhubaneswar Placement included Reliance Industries Ltd.

Facilities Offered @ Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar

The permanent campus of IIT Bhubaneswar is spreading over 936 Acres of land. It is situated at the foot of Barunei Hill, which is famous for its rich history. The campus provides a unique serene and pollution free academic environment. IIT Bhubaneswar has Academic area, Residential area and area for Training centres and Research Park. Although IIT Bhubaneswar had started functioning from two transit campuses in the Bhubaneswar city during its inception period, majority of residential and academic activities have now started in the permanent campus at Argul.The Institute is committed to provide facilities for People with Disabilities includes student & staff. Following facilities are available in all the buildings.

The horticulture activity was started in 2015 to create the IIT Bhubaneswar campus with full of greenery and more vibrant, including exotic and indigenous deciduous and coniferous trees and plants (long-life tall trees, flower and medicinal trees, fruit trees, palm and pine trees). The members of board of governors inaugurated the first phase of plantation project at our new campus by planting the first saplings (mahogany and gulmohar plants) around sports ground area on 10 July 2015. For the next-five plan, the main focus of the centre for horticulture is to create native landscaping in newly constructed areas and near buildings with lush green gardens adorned with ornamental and medicinal plants that maintain the clean and healthy environment for the students and residents of the campus.

The campus offers a comprehensive sports and recreation infrastructure. Outdoor grounds for football, cricket, volleyball; courts for basketball, badminton; indoor halls for table-tennis and other indoor games; gymnasium and fitness facilities. Cultural — tech, arts, music, drama — and sports clubs are active, giving students balanced academic + extracurricular life.

Hostel

The hostel at IIT Bhubaneswar offers single occupancy rooms for all students across five hostels—three for boys and two for girls. The hostel fee ranges from 10,000 to 18,000 INR per semester, inclusive of mess charges, which varies depending on the hostel. The rooms are equipped with basic amenities such as a bed, table, chair, fan, and cupboard, with some rooms offering a balcony. The hostels provide 24/7 electricity, water supply, and internet connectivity.

Each floor has common washrooms and washing machines. The mess serves a variety of meals four times a day, including both North and South Indian cuisines, with special meals on certain days. The registration for hostel accommodation is carried out alongside the college admission process. While the infrastructure and cleanliness of the hostels are well-maintained, the quality of the mess food is generally considered average.

Transport

• The permanent campus is about 25 km from Bhubaneswar city center and 14 km from the airport — yet on a large green campus offering both connectivity and tranquillity.

• Within campus, transport and shuttle support for students/faculty; campus layout supports commuting across academic, residential, and research blocks.
