The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, widely known as IIT-KGP, is a premier public engineering and research university located in the city of Kharagpur in West Bengal. Admission Procedure

IIT Kharagpur offers programs at the UG, PG, and doctoral levels. A total of 207 courses are offered at IIT Kharagpur. The courses are offered in disciplines like Law, Engineering, Science, and Arts. Admission Criteria

B.Tech Admission

IIT Kharagpur offers a 4-year B.Tech program in 15 different specializations. Candidates who are willing to be admitted to the B.Tech program must clear the JEE Advanced exam. Further, the students must register themselves for the JoSAA counselling to reserve a seat at the institute. IIT Kharagpur’s 4-year fees for B.Tech are INR 2.30 Lakhs. Some of the most popular specializations at IIT KGP are CSE, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, etc.

M.Tech Admission

IIT Kharagpur M.Tech program is offered at the PG level in 54 different specializations. The institute accepts GATE scores to allow admission to this program. Also, candidates are required to register themselves for the COAP counselling for the seat allocation process.

M.Sc. Admission

IIT Kharagpur offers admission to a two-year M.Sc. course. Admission to the MSc program is based on IIT JAM scores. The candidates are required to cross the IIT JAM cutoff to be eligible for admission to the MSc program. The program is offered under the Joint MSc-PhD program

MBA Admission

IIT Kharagpur MBA program is offered for 2 years. Students must have appeared for the CAT exam to apply for this course, and further, GD and PI rounds are conducted by VGSoM (Vinod Gupta School of Management), IIT Kharagpur, for the final selection. Vinod Gupta School of Management is an academic unit of IIT Kharagpur. It is the first business school to be established in an IIT.

Ph.D. Admission 

IIT Kharagpur offers a Ph.D. program at the doctoral level in 4 categories, namely Regular with Institute Assistantship, Individual Fellowship (i.e., CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR/INSPIRE, etc.), Sponsored, and Working Professionals. This program is offered in different disciplines such as Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture & Regional Planning, Humanities & Social Sciences, Rural Development, Law, Management, and Medicine.

Application Process

IIT Kharagpur Admission process is conducted in online mode. Admission to UG and PG courses is based on national-level entrance exams. Candidates have to appear for the exams such as JEE Advanced, GATE, and IIT JAM. Based on the entrance score, candidates have to register for JoSAA Counselling for B.Tech. For M.Tech admissions, register for COAP Counselling, and for M.Sc, register for JOAPS Counselling.Selection for PhD courses will be based on a GATE/ CSIR/ UGC NET/ ICAR/ DST INSPIRE fellowship, followed by a Personal Interview conducted by the institute.

The Central Library of IIT Kharagpur started in a small room of the Institute old Building (Shahid Bhavan) in the year 1951, and moved to its present premises in 1956. For the last six decades, the library has been the lifeline of the academic activities of the Institute.
