About

In keeping with India's vision to become a world leader in Science and Technology and to usher in a new revolution, resulting in an unprecedented economic growth, Government of India reassessed the need of technical manpower and decided to set up eight new IITs. Six of them started functioning back from the academic year 2008-09. These were established at Hyderabad, Gandhinagar, Rajasthan, Ropar, Patna and Bhubaneswar. IIT Indore and IIT Mandi started functioning from July 2009.

Indian Institute of Technology Indore located in Madhya Pradesh, known as IIT Indore or IITI, is an institute of national importance established by the Government of India in 2009. It is one of the eight new IITs, started by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (India), Government of India. The institution started functioning from 2009-10 in a temporary campus at Institute of Engineering and Technology of Devi Ahilyabai University under mentorship of IIT Bombay. Shri Arjun Singh, the Union HRD minister, laid the foundation of the permanent campus, spread over an area of around 501.42-acre (2.1 km2), on 17th February 2009 at Simrol, a location on Khandwa Road about 25 km from the city of Indore.

Since , February 2016, IIT Indore has started functioning from its permanent campus. All the Administrative Offices, Material Management Section, Finance and Account Section, The School of Basic Sciences, The School of Humanities and Social Sciences, The School of Engineering, Basic Science Labs and Engineering Labs are all established in this campus. The Central Library is also situated in this campus.

The Academic office is responsible for all the academic affairs of the students of the Institute. There is a Dean of Academic Affairs, two Associate Dean (Academic), an Administrative Officer, Managers and Deputy Managers in this office besides some contractual employees.

Admission Procedure

IIT Indore Courses are offered at UG, PG, Doctorate level. There are 57 courses offered at IIT Indore. The courses are offered disciplines like Engineering, Science. Admission Criteria

B.Tech Admission

Admission to IIT Indore is available for undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs through national-level entrance exams, followed by centralized counseling. For B.Tech admissions, candidates must qualify JEE Main and then appear for JEE Advanced, with final seat allotment managed by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). JoSAA prepares a category-wise All India Rank (AIR) merit list based on entrance exam scores, which determines the order of seat allocation during counseling rounds.

To participate in JoSAA counseling, candidates must visit the official JoSAA website and log in using their JEE Advanced 2025 application number, along with their name, mother’s name, and date of birth. During registration, candidates are required to fill in their details such as gender, nationality, state code of eligibility, and contact information. It's important to review all entries carefully, as only contact details can be updated after registration is completed.

M.Tech/MS Admission

• For PG programs like M.Tech, and MS, admission typically depends on scores in the GATE, followed by participation in the COAP counseling portals. COAP refers to the Common Offer Acceptance Portal, on which all Participating Institutes / PSUs will upload their offers in a common time window as specified.
  
• To register for COAP 2025, candidates must follow a structured process using valid GATE scores from 2023, 2024, or 2025. Registration requires key details such as name, GATE registration number(s), score(s), paper code, date of birth, email ID, and mobile number.
  
• Only candidates interested in M.Tech. admissions at participating institutes or PSU job offers are eligible. After registration, candidates can view offers made by institutes or PSUs, which are linked to their COAP registration numbers. The application fee is INR 800 for UR/OBC-NCL/EWS and 400 for SC/ST/PwD/Female.

M.Sc Admission

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore offers M.Sc admissions for 2025 in various specializations, including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Astronomy, and Biotechnology. Candidates interested in pursuing an M.Sc at IIT Indore must first ensure they meet the eligibility criteria set by the institute.

To begin the admission process, applicants are required to qualify for the JAM (Joint Admission Test for M.Sc.) and subsequently register for JAM counseling through its official website. During the counseling phase, candidates must choose IIT Indore under their top preferences during the counseling stage. Based on the entrance exam, shortlisted candidates will be picked for admission. All essential documents must be submitted, and admission fees must be paid to secure a seat at IIT Indore.

PhD Admission

IIT Indore admits students into its PhD programs through a structured selection process including entrance exams and personal interviews. The process is carried out online through IIT Indore's academic portal. The interested candidate must fill out an application form and upload the required documents, including academic transcripts and certificates.

An integral part of the application is the Statement of Purpose (SoP), within which applicants are required to clearly express their research interests and academic goals, and motivation for pursuing a PhD. The submitted LORs must be from professors or professionals duly able to give evidence of the applicant's academic performance and potential for research.

Short-listed candidates will be called for an interview after scrutiny of applications. The interview can be either in person or online. This interview assesses the candidates regarding their subject knowledge, research aptitude, and clarity of research objectives. Final selection is based on overall performance in the interview, academic record, and research alignment with the faculty at IIT Indore.

Scholarship

IIT-Indore offers various scholarships and financial support schemes: merit-cum-means scholarships, tuition-fee waivers or remissions for students from economically weaker backgrounds, SC/ST/OBC reservations and concessions, and special scholarships for girls or underrepresented groups. Additional financial support may be available via research assistantships or project fellowships for PG and research students.

Placement

IIT Indore placement report for 2025 has not been released. However, the IIT Indore NIRF 2025 report shows the placement performance of the institute through three academic years in both UG and PG programs. For BTech, the median package increased from INR 18.5 LPA in 2021-22 to a peak of INR 21.2 LPA in 2022-23. It slightly dropped to INR 19.48 LPA in 2023-24. Placement numbers have also risen, with 234 out of 331 qualified UG students placed in the most recent cycle. The median salary in the MTech program dropped in 2022-23 before bouncing back to INR 10 LPA in 2023-24. A total of 63 out of 153 PG students placed in the 2023-24 placement drive.

The institute’s Guest House has 16 Executive Rooms, and 02 VIP Suite to facilitate the accommodation to the Institute’s guests, newly appointed faculty, officers and staff members, external experts, delegates and participants attending various conferences, seminars, symposium & workshops, and other guests of the institute. Guest House rooms are equipped with modern facilities like- Mini fridge, Tea/coffee kettle, Room Heater, Hi-Speed Wi-Fi, HD Television, Telephone, Luxury bathroom fittings & Toiletries etc. The institute also has five fully furnished “1BHK” guest house studio apartments for the accommodation of long staying research collaborators, Family guests and Newly Joined Faculty / Staff Members. The Health Centre of the Indian Institute of Technology Indore provides dedicated health services to the institute community comprising of students, employees, their dependents and Institute Guests. The Health Centre offers Outpatient, Day care, Trauma and Emergency Care.

Hostel

All the Hostels are collectively headed by the Chief Warden, who is assisted by a Senior and a Junior Assistant. Each Hostel is being monitored by a Warden, ably assisted by a Supervisor. In addition, we also have JC Bose Hostel, which houses married research students and staff members.

Anti-ragging measures

IIT Indore treats ragging as a criminal offence and has zero tolerance for any such activity which amounts to ragging. The Institute has an anti-ragging committee which ensures maintaining a healthy and ragging free environment for students. Students are sensitized periodically on the ill effects and punishments of ragging. Victims are free to report any such matter to the Hostel Warden or any hostel staff and the identity will be kept strictly confidential.

• The permanent campus is at Simrol, about 25–30 km from Indore city.
